no DRM but watermark -> is my method to get rid of it correct ?

Hello.
I just bought an EPub with no DRM, BUT the cover shows a big, ugly watermark saying "Licence eden blahblahblah - 2 full lines of it, including my name ! -), thereby also completely ruining the picture on it.
I noticed that uploading it to Calibre (even with DeDRM) does nothing about it, so I just changed the cover to a "clean" version, and then "polished" the e-book so as to make the change permanent even if uploading it.
Under these conditions, can it be considered "safe" to put it at the disposal of other readers ? (Not that I fear much would happen anyway, but just for information.)
Thanks in advance.

Put at the disposal of other readers? You mean give it out? Do you own the rights?

Watermarking often buries information in the oddest places including steganography (information buried in images) and encoding in non-displayed areas.

As for putting the book at the disposal of other readers? Given your questions, it is pretty obvious that you are not the book's copyright holder or assign, so doing so would be considered ebook piracy. That is something that MobileRead does not condone.

Thanks for the answers.
To answer your own questions, I do not own the rights, but neither does the "publisher" ("" intentional), since the rights plainly do not exist : it is a 150-year-old technical book that he basically scanned and OCRed and "published" with no addition, no notes, no foreword, nothing. So I would truly not consider making it available to other readers piracy. He has the $12 I and some other fooled guys gave out for this as his reward, which is more than he deserves.

See is it on archive dot org.
If the seller only scanned it and it's a facsimile / image PDF, then they have no rights.
If they edited content, format, page layout or added illustrations, then they have copyright on that version overall, but not the source text or source illustrations.

I am positive there are no rights, all that's been added by the "publisher" is a cover picture (then ruined by the watermark!), it's just that I very much dislike the idea of my name appearing online for no reason, and the watermark includes (included) it in full.
Anyway, I deleted the cover, replaced it with a neutral one and proceeded. Thanks for your advice.
