Changes on "Save To Disk" in v. 6.11 are rather unpractical

In this way, the books were saved loose in a single folder chosen by you, they kept the characters and were saved with a “Title – Extension” format, which was perfect to send them in bulk via the “Send to Kindle” website.

So, what is the problem with the new Calibre update?

The latest update is saving the books with a "Title-Author-Extension" format, and on top of that is placing the files into folders by author, adding the OPF and JPG file of the cover.

The problem with this is that you need to manually remove the author's name from each file, otherwise Amazon creates a “title - author” title. This wouldn’t be an issue with one or two files, but if you are planning to send 50 – 100 books to your device it become an incredible burden.
You have looked at the calibre online manual or done a Google search for information on calibre's save to disk? You have looked at your Save to disk template? If not, perhaps you should look at your Save to Disk template. Preferences => Save to Disk => Save template. A simple {title} might be all you need to get the title as the filename As for the opf/jpg files? A simple delete can clear those up.

Oddly enough, I seem to remember having the opf and jpg files saved when I've used Save to Disk for quite a few years since around calibre 0.7 as far as I recall.

As for an incredible burden? Our definitions seem to vary. A burden is a blind friend of mine using ebooks on a Braille ereader. Having to edit file names does not qualify, IMNSHO.

Yup, you're absolutely right. My apologies for this.

My library was corrupted and I had to start over, so I must have forgotten that I set those preferences a few years ago and assumed they were that way by default.

You're not the only person who has been burned by settings that they'd forgotten setting. I still have embarrassing memories of several occasions where davidfor offered help and I 'enjoyed' a Doh! moment.

That's why I back up my configuration folder. I could never remember all my settings otherwise. There must be hundreds after using Calibre practically daily for more than 11 years. I've switched computers several times and without backing up my settings I would be totally lost.

May I ask how you do that? I mean, do you save your data via the library or you simply save a copy of the Calibre configuration folder?

You can save the entire config folder. This includes all PI (updating the stale ones after a restore should be normal)
Just remember to redo the BU when you add new plugins or change PI settings.

Import/Export does everything, but takes time and space, so not commonly used for frequent backups

Thanks for the clarification.

Yes, the entire folder, and when I've switched computers, I've pasted the folder to the same location it was on the old PC. Worked every time.

Edit: I've used the same username on all my computers through the years, so as not to break any paths.

Edit2: I use FreeFileSync to keep my backups up to date.
