Best way for digital picture frame?

I was wandering if anyone knows the best way of making a kindle (or potentially other ereader device) into a digital picture frame.
I made a word document in the right format an put pictures in their. Then I opened it in koreader and set the current content as screensaver.
But: Picture quality (contrast) is really bad / or image very dark. + Becels on the bottom and right side. Converting to pdf solves the becel problem but not the quality.

I read that online screensaver can wake up kindle and cycle through Images, but I don't even know if this works on newer Kindles. Normal screensaver hack would be an option. But both have the problem that Images need to be cut pixel perfect and this project was intended as an easy to use birthday gift.

Also keen on investigating this. Acquired a kindle 4.
The standard screensaver hack is a simple way to get custom images displayed as a screensaver (I didn't need to do any image editing before, either). BUT the kindle doesn't appear to rotate through or cycle through the images, so it will just display the one image until you unlock again. I would like images to cycle through in a random order periodically.
