Cannot connect devices to calibre

I am using Calibre Companion on both my iphone and kindle fire. When trying to connect as wireless device, I get the error it cannot locate Calibre. As I was looking in forums, I found out that CC is basically a dead app so installed Calibre Sync on my iphone, hoping that would be the solution to the connection issues. However, CS is still giving me the error that it can't connect. I have manually entered the IP and port into both CC and CS, stopped and started Wireless Device Connections multiple times to no avail.

I'm running Calibre 6.10, have updated all plug-ins. I am not sure what else to do. It must be something on my laptop but I'm not sure what.

Is your Calibre PC (also) wireless? BTW What OS is the PC?

It may be on the wrong band. Or your router blocks (by default) device <>device connections (default security to keep drive by hackers away)

Yes, my laptop is connected via wifi. OS is Windows 11, recently updated - which is about the time I started having trouble. Or I should say, when the trouble reappeared. Connection issues seem to come and go for me but never the same reason.

Windows Auto update. I hate moving / hidden targets
The old way, YOU controlled when and IF (it should be done now.) A)You were aware of the update activity. B)You could defer to a time you HAD TIME to sort out issues.
Many go off without a hitch. But there are a few that replaced a 'piece' that does not play well until a reboot. These are NOT the ones that do show REBOOT REQUIRED.

I am old school. My desktop PC (W10 pro, It is too old for W11) is wired to the router and CC (I have the last version from the original creators), works fine from my Tablet via WiFi.

Do Whitelist (exception) Calibre.exe (or the whole Calibre Program folder) with your firewall and see if that helps.

And don't get me started on W11 moving all the setting/configuration menus around. IMHO W7 did a great job of sorting out the mess inherited from W3. Yes, I started with MSDOS 2.0 . I skipped WME and W8

Thanks for the info. Magically overnight, it all started to work. I wish I knew why... Both CC and CS are connecting to Calibre and the Content Server and through OneDrive, none of which it was doing last night.

I'll keep in mind the whitelisting (which doesn't appear to be as easy as it sounds for McAfee) in case it happens again.
