KOBO LIBRE 2

Can anyone please tell me how to remove the two spaces behind every apostrophe in every book that I put on my kobo?
It looks like this: he' s always dying.
It doesn't seem to make a difference if I load the book via Calibre or if I just copy an EPUB book straight from my computer, but it is very annoying. I am a 20 year Kindle user, but I am loving my Kobo. Wish I had switched long ago. Thanks in advance.

Where did these eBooks come from? I'm asking to see if it could be the source that's the problem.

What you could do is load each book into the Calibre editor and search/replace out that excess space.

Where these eBooks converted or are they as they came from the store? Was DRM removed?

I'll second that it's probably the source material.

I too came from Kindle and wish I'd have switched sooner!

The books all came from my library on my computer. None have DRM, some were converted from mobi, where the space did not exist, and I just now checked a book on Calibre, with view, there is not a double space, but on the kobo, the same word has two spaces. For this book I sent it to my kobo via Calibre. But like I said, it doesn't seem to matter if it is transfered directly or thru Calibre.

The book that I checked was a native EPUB and had not been converted to any other format. With Calibre view, it is fine. on the kobo, sent to the kobo via Calibre, it has the spaces.

Try installing the portable version of Calibre 6 and with fresh settings try and see what happens with a fresh library.

when i go to page setup, which reader do i choose, or should I ignore that part?

Probably ignore that part. It's been a long time since I've setup Calibre. But back then, that was before I had a Kobo. So I don't see it mattering.

ok, new info. I just plugged my kobo into my computer. went to the book with file explorer and opened it to view it. No spaces on the file on the kobo. But when the kobo is loading the book for reading, there are spaces. Got to be something in kobo. Some setting i need to change, i would guess.

and i dl the portable version, but didn't send the book to kobo, because i looked at the original book file on the kobo, and no spaces.

Did you load a custom font that has something wrong with apostrophes?

Select Georgia and see how you get on. If that doesn't work, have you patched the system? If so, try reinstalling the firmware and make sure it's the 4.34.20097 version.

the other thing that happens that seems strange is when i open the cover, i see the book in landscape, then reduced in size but right way up, and then it goes to the regular reading page. I wonder if i got a bad reader.

That's due to the orientation having changed and is then changing back. Nothing wrong there.

I wonder if i got a bad reader.
