No factory reset, and it won't shut off.

I'm pretty sure I should factory reset before I send it back. The return is already approved and the shipping label is printer. Completely finished with Kindle products. Used to enjoy a challenge with these kinda things when I was younger but at 67 I just don't enjoy the aggravation any more.

So, all I really need here is to be able to place it into a returnable state.

Thanks.

Do you even get the Cancel/Restart/Screen Off popup after holding the power button for a while (my PW4 has taken from 12 to 26 seconds of holding the power button). There is no way to really turn it off so airplane mode and screen off is as close as you can come.

It reboots, but seems stuck in demo mode, I think.

Shipping mode turns kindles off and does a factory reset as a "bonus". It might also make sure the battery is not charged beyond 50%.

Search bar command ;shpm

So, went to the Kindle and it was still on this morning. Yea...

Did the ;exit_demo, then the ;shpm which returned the message that 'battery too high, unplug charger and kindle turn off when battery gets low automatically...'(paraphrasing)

You might have received more help if you'd actually been honest and explained exactly what it was that you were doing before you began encountering difficulties

An example of how this might have been worded:

The solution to such a problem is to type ;exit_demo in the search bar, force a reboot by holding down the power button and perform a factory reset from the settings menu once it has rebooted.

Excuse me...?? WTF do you mean "more honest"...?? I've never been dishonest to anyone here in the decade plus since I joined. Just because you may not like my style does not give you any right to call me dishonest.

And to anyone else, I do apologize if my posting seemed somewhat uncoordinated. Given that I was able to jailbreak previous editions successfully despite not being an expert at at and definitely stretching my meagre abilities, I figured I would be successful but that I would surely need some help. Thus, the posts. I remember everyone here always being so helpful, guess I was just expecting things ti be the same.

You made no mention of jail breaking the Kindle in your initial posts. Had you done so, suggestions would have been very different. You were not "dishonest" exactly, but you sure left out pertinent details. The devil indeed is in the details.

Devil is in the details, absolutely agree. Part of my problem is I really only come here when I get a new kindle, to jailbreak it and put KOreader on it. This would be my 3rd or 4th. The one currently listed in my profile for example was received December 2018. I did manage to get that one done.

Just to note though, I did in fact mention that I was here to jailbreak in my first post. Mentioned it right in the title, as well as the FW version. Thought I had it covered, but hey shit happens.

That was a completely separate thread and was mostly a stream of consciousness without actual questions.

You can't expect that everyone reading a thread has read every other thread.

At any rate, like I said I do apologize if my posting seems the work of a scatterbrain...
