resurrecting an old Calibre function ask

I need to have a book in front of three others so from the cover grid, I 'smartly' dragged it to put it in front. Well, I'm guessing you all know what happened -the book was getting ready to merge into another of the books -good Save, me.

This happens on list view of cover grid view.

So I'm resurrecting this old Calibre function ask:

Any way to do such a thing other than creating more custom columns? I already have many of them. And all I'd like to do is drag a book in front of another etc.

Thanks for any response/suggestions.

Calibre's UI isn't really designed for manual ordering of books.

Reading List plugin using a custom series column is your best option here.

Something else I've done is put program: is_marked() into a "column built from other columns," mark the book I want on top, then sort by that column. It'll only work for the current Calibre session and clear after a restart.

@ownedbycats,

Thanks. I was hoping for something more '1 click'. Reading List plugin seems more permanent than the 'is_marked()' script.

Thanks again.
