Smile New Sony 505 on the way

Hi all,

I've got a new Sony 505 on the way... I'm not new to ebooks but I got tired of reading them on my desktop or laptop and my Palm is just too small. I saw the Sony in a store over the Christmas holidays but just "bit the bullet" and finally spent my money to order one today!!! I was told this forum is the place for good info about ereaders and things that affect them!!

I'm looking forward to a new adventure with my ereader...

Thanks,

Steph

Welcome to MobileRead, Steph. I think you're the third new person from Alabama I've seen since Christmas. (I was born and reared in Alabama & graduated from Auburn University. WAR EAGLE!)

You'll find a lot of Sony users here and a huge list of books ready to load onto your reader when it arrives. If you have questions, bring them on! The smart folks here will be glad to provide answers.

While you're waiting, tell us all about you. What kind of books do you like to read? Where do you read? How much do you read? Are there other readers in your household? (Will you have to guard your Sony to keep a family member from *borrowing* it?) What do you do when you aren't reading?

We're glad you found us and hope you'll have a good time hanging out with us.

Congrats on the 505! You are completely going to love it. Like what Elsi said, what do you like to read? Check in here a lot, we've got a lot of great info (particularly sale updates, I love those)

ROFL Elsi sometimes some of us are a little slower to advance to the newest technology here in Alabama but we get there!!! Sorry I'm a bama fan... but if bama isn't playing Auburn is my next choice!! LOL and my parents are originally from Tyler, Texas but my father was in the military so we moved all over the place while I was growing up. He retired in Huntsville, Alabama and we've just never moved out of the state again. LOL I married a South Alabama "boy" so we in LA (lower Alabama).

Thanks everyone for the welcome... I've been reading through the forums and there is a lot of really good information here!!!

LOL I already have tons of ebooks I'd like to be able to put on my 505 so I'll be really looking at that info. I'm an avid reader, I read around 500 books last year both print and ebooks. I do a lot of work reviewing books for 4 different review companies. Many of the books are ebooks and generally the format provided is PDF... part of why I'm just now getting around to getting an ebook reader! I will read almost any fiction; my favorite genres are mystery, cozy mystery, romantic suspense, paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and sci-fi. I have one son who is also an avid reader (he loves to read anything with dragons and other fantasy or sci-fi stuff... he's 11 though so I still have to censor some of it). My hubby doesn't sit still long enough to read anything of substance, LOL. Neither will get to use my ebook reader... I don't share well <grin>!

There isn't much doubt about whether I will like my Sony or not... I did a lot of research about what would suit me best and talked to some reader friends who already own one before deciding on the Sony.

What do I do when I'm not reading?? You mean I'm supposed to do something else??

I consider myself retired from the real world and do what I want in my "spare time." LOL, I'm a computer consultant for a couple of local non-profit organizations. I'm one of the founders and still on the board for a charity organization that helps families redistribute gently used children's clothing (we hold consignment sales twice a year where the parents/sellers keep part of the money and the rest goes to local charities). I'm the founder and still run a second charity organization that collects used children's books and gives them out at the end of the school year to every child in our local elementary school. (I am fondly called the book lady in my small town, although a few of my "friends" say that is book "pusher"!) I'm in the process of deciding how and where to expand the book program and taking on some board members... Then of course I'm the ultimate Mom taking my son to all his activities and helping with many of them. ROFL of course with the ecconomy zapping my retirement nest egg, I may have to come back to the real world sometime... darn it!!

Thanks for your interest and I am really excited about my Sony... I've never been shy about asking questions so I'm sure I'll turn up around on the boards ... pesting people!!
