ebook viewer stopped working after importing library
Using calibre 6.8 on linux, the ebook viewer was working until I Imported library from old windows computer, running a different version of calibre, now ebook viewer hangs.
I'm wondering if importing my library changed a setting somewhere? |

Importing a library alone does not change any settings. Much more likely is that your GPU drivers were updated and are now broken (the most common cause of the viewer not working). You have to tell us what Linux distr this is and what exactly does "not working" mean.

Mint 20.3 .No video drivers were updated during that time.
The evennt viewer opens, says something about preparing a book for the first time, has an icon that circles, then it freezes and I have to force quit it. When I imported the library it removed all the plugins I installed and put the ones from windows in, I had to reupdate everything. Not sure what other settings it affects. |

Ok. I think I got it. It's working now. I've uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times, there was I think a deb package that was older, then later I noticed a review that said it was out of date and to get calibre from the site. So Installed that. I later heard that a flatpack is better because the versions from the site don't autoupdate so I checked for a flatpack. . It looks like flatpack version that was the up to date version and I think that auto updates as well. There was no mention of a video driver update in the update manager log, but when I reinstalled the flatpack it did install something that appeared video related. Since you mentioned video drivers I also decided to try the Nvidia driver rather than using the open source driver. I also noticed plug in errors in the debug log so I fixed those. And drm might not have been set up correctly.
I've only been on linux about two weeks. There's a lot to learn. |

Using Linux with Nvidia gpu's always use the proprietary driver. With Amd gpu's the open source driver is the official driver from AMD and is what the windows proprietary drive is based on IIRC.
Note that qt is black listing more older GPu's with every update of qt. On Mint Iuse the official binary with no problems. The calibre flatpack will update two to three days after the calibre updates. My system uses a AMD Ryzen cpu and a AMD gpu. bernie P.S. On Mint click on the Mint Menu button then Administration then Driver Manager that will check you system for any proprietary drivers needed then ask if you want to install them. IT will install the correct and lateness Nvidia driver for your system and gpu. bernie Quote:
