Best firmware version

Before I switched to Kindle I remembered a lot of problems with firmware changes on Kobo. More battery drain and a slower device often the case (back in 2015/2016).
Now I bought a Libra 2 again. How is the firmware situation now? Is it safe to update to the latest version or do you prefer to stay on an older one?

4.34.20097 is what you really should be running.

I'm someone who never updates unless there's a reason for me to do so. But this time I'm running the latest firmware on both of my Kobos. No issues, all's well.

I held back on updating my Libra 2 from its stock firmware for a long time because I just didn't see the point of it. But then they added an option for setting the weight of sideloaded fonts and that was a gamechanger for me. Definitely worth the update.

4.34.20097. here too.
Each time I had a random reset on my Libra 2, I updated in the hope of no more random resets.
I've had one on 4.34.20097 already, but live in hope

How common are Libra 2 random resets?

From reading comments here and elsewhere I know two things about the Libra 2:
  1. It is one of the finest ereaders yet released
  2. It crashes and resets a lot

#2 seems like it would eliminate #1.

My Libra 2 has not crashed or reset with 4.34.2097. Seems pretty stable.

I dont' think crashing and resetting a lot is the common experience at all. Other than the firmware releases that caused issues with connecting to usb,, I've seen very little instability with any of the Libra 2 firmware releases.

It does it like maybe once every other week? And i read more then half an hour a day. It didn't reset at all last week when i was on vacation with no TV and WiFi and reading even more than usual. I use Plato instead of the stock reader but i don't think that makes a difference

I've been having reboots and lock ups on my Libra 2 for a while, roughly 3 or 4 per book.
Tried many things to fix this, but the one thing that appears to have worked for me was uninstalling NickelClock, since then I've read 4 book with no reboots and no lock ups.

I've had two freezes on my Libra. The first was when one of the menus refused to close, but I was able to fix it by exiting the book and then opening it again. The second time the Libra froze completely, and I had to power cycle it. I mostly read library books, so it's possible that these problems are unique to ADE and wouldn't happen if I were using KEPUB. Overall, my Libra has been very stable during the months I've been using it.

I take it you've never actually read the entire NickelClock thread because it's mentioned in there that it's not compatible with the Libre 2.

Mine did crash and freeze in the beginning, after buying. But it has no longer done so either on 4.32 or 4.34. I mostly have epubs on my Libra.

No idea why this still happens to some users. My Libra 2 is by no means vanilla, it's heavily patched, lots of custom fonts, custom screensavers and so on. NickelClock seems to be one of the culprits. I've never used it.

Has been freezing for me in KOReader a lot. Didn't freeze so far after I enabled the "Autostandby timeout" option in reader settings (which is disabled by default for this device as it was known to cause freezes). Not sure why it works the opposite in my case or if it's just a coincidence.
