increasing timeout?
I just bought the Libra 2 and started to load my books, being pleased to have the same 32 Gb capacity as the Sage and Elipsa, which facilitates moving from one to the other, though there are of course books which I reserve to bigger size.
I was prepared to suffer the usual shenanigans but the first 3000 + books were fairly painless, though some books with a huge number of html files stuck (for instance the complete works of Molière or a 700 pages long Spanish grammar). But the most recent versions of Calibre (I am on 6.7.1) seem to be much more picky than those extant a year ago when I bought the Sage. Today, I transformed my 32b portable Calibre into a 64b version, but it doesn't improve. Calibre closes down all the time. Also apart to very long error messages about books which presented no problem with Sage or Elipsa, I have a lot of timeouts. I remember seeing a long discussion recently about increasing timeout, but searching threads didn't produce anything recent. Does anybody remember where I can find it? I'm getting desperate. |

Err, sounds like you're having PC issues there. Or USB connectivity issues. It could be a problem with your Kobo,, but I would first suspecpt something mundane like a problem with the USB Cable your using, or the port on your pc you are connecting with. Sometimes, it can help to put a usb hub beween your PC and a device if pc/device don't communicate well with each other.
There should be some instructions in Calibre forum to gather troubleshooting information for Calibre. |

Install the Kobo Utilities plugin so you can check if your database is corrupt or not.

Well, I had checked my data base, and just re-checked it, and my PC and USB connectivity work just fine with Sage.
But missing the method for increasing timeout - I know it is here somewhere, and quite recent - I tried to increase the speed anyway and managed it: with my now 64b portable calibre, converting bunches of books to kepub within calibre is mostly 2 to 10 seconds, up to 3 minutes for just a few huge books, and sending the kepubs bunches to the reader are very quick too. I still have 100s to treat, so time consuming, but once it's done, I'll only have to do it for new books, once, instead of every time I send them to a device. And the job converting portable calibre to 64b has to be done for every new F/w I adopt - but I only adopt the proven ones that really improve reading. |
