send books to devices problem

I have a template that I have been using for quite awhile but now it doesn't.

It is setup like this: {series}{series_index:0>2s| | - }{title} - {author} to have this results: Detective 03 - Who shot john - Bill Smith

But now it comes out: Who shot john - Bill Smith

I changed from vs 6.4 to 6.5 and then 6.61 but now have uninstalled everything and reinstalled 6.4. When I send to kindle and it saves to the calibre library they use book name then author

Where is this template used?
What does "send to kindle and it saves to the calibre library" mean?

I think you are talking about a metadata plugboard. If so, please attach a screen capture of the plugboard screen with the kindle device selected. See the screen capture for an example of what we need.

When I send to kindle from Calibre the ebook loads as: who shot john - bill smith
When I look at the calibre library on my hard drive is shows: who shot john - bill smith

You configure Save to DISK in the second screenshot
BUT you only have a Template for Any DEVICE

See Chaley's post. He has 3, 1 for each kind of save
You need theon for Save to disk (Smart is for WiFi eg CC)
