Huawei announces 10.3" eInk MatePad Paper

Huawei has unveiled a new 10.3" eInk device called the MatePad Paper which has a pen with 26ms of latency for note taking running their HarmonyOS (It can maybe run Android apps?) . Seems like it's going to be €500 and unlikely to be released in the US. Same 227 ppi as the other 10.3" devices. 4GB RAM, 64GB storage. Interesting to see the eink note taking market take off. https://www.theverge.com/2022/2/28/2...-pencil-stylus |

https://consumer.huawei.com/en/table...d-paper/specs/ it doesn't say so in the specs, but it does have a screen light with 32 levels. A built-in adjustable reading lamp with 32 convenient settings gives you so much comfort when it's dark.In terms of processing power it's a pretty big jump from the snapdragon 662 found in Onyx products, performance cores are Cortex-A76 vs A73 and low power A55 vs A53. It's similar in performance to a snapdragon 860, or apple A12/13. Despite the CPU being almost twice as powerful, it should draw less power https://www.giznext.com/chipset-comp...snapdragon-662 |

Sadly, it seems to have glass substrate in its screen.

I'm obviously referring to the LCD having a backlight, so the LCD glass is less supported than the eInk panel, which often is mounted directly on an aluminium chassis as it's front lit, if lit. The "it" refers to LCD not eInk. Maybe a fail on Translation parsing? |

It has the same EInk module as Boox Note Air. Last edited by ottischwenk; 03-05-2022 at 02:52 PM. | |

I don't understand how @Quoth came up with LCD in this post, since EInk provides a 10.3 inch module in Mobius technology as well

Android Authority got their hands on this device at Mobile World Congress. They posted their impressions earlier this morning. The device was named a MWC Award winner. https://www.androidauthority.com/hua...ds-on-3125687/ |

Hopefully, there'll be an international release. If it's as good as Onyx or better, I would consider buying this instead. I believe Huawei can create better products. Ultimately, it will depend on the possibility to install apks. And whether or not Huawei's bloatware can be disabled. |
