Why do you still want Calibre 32-bit when you have Calibre 64-bit? There's no need at all for the 32-bit version.

The only way I know to remove Calibre 32 bit and/or 64 bit is via the Windows control panel Programs and Features tool and that must be done by the user. The two can exist side by side on the same computer - there's no automatic removal that I know of.

calibre 6 will uninstall calibre 5. If you were using 32 bit calibre 5 it will be removed. You cant stop that. Use the portable version of either calibre 6 or calibre 5 if for some reason you want both on your computer.

Hi! Is there some way to run a portable instance and the system installed one on Windows, at the same time? (with different libraries, different settings...)

For Goldendict, which is also QT based, I use "Run as a different user" successfully. Then I can run a different set of dictionaries on each instance, as well as style settings.

Also, is there a way to customise Calibre menus background color? While i love the contrast provided in cover grid for titles selected (with "calibre style UI"), I prefer system menu background colors (gray)

Oops, I just managed to do that, by copying the portable instance to another user directory, and running Calibre "as a different user"!

Only problem I see so far is that when tray icon is enabled, I only see the icon for the portable instance.

BTW I wanted to run two instances in order to troubleshoot an issue that I have with conversion to PDFs.

Why convert to PDF? In my use case (for some titles and in some other circumstances), because of all the features PDF Xchange Editor provides, like the one that makes it possible to change the background color.

So I ran a conversion from an EPUB title to PDF on three instances:
  • Main Instance (6.4) - when I try to change the background color of the converted PDF on Xchange, I get a white background.
  • Calibre Portable 4.23 - same as above
  • Calibre Portable 3.48 - I could successfully change the color of the background of the PDF converted

I'm attaching a zip containing 1 page of each file generated:

1) background color change went fine (3.48 conversion)
2) background color change with mostly white bg

So I ask, what changed from 3.48 to 4.23 in PDF conversion? Can I assign some CSS styling on the "Extra CSS" tab of the conversion settings that will override somehow that white background on PDFs?
Attached Files
File Type: zip bg dif conv.zip (90.7 KB, 60 views)

Ah-hah, I didn't know that.

Previously, if I wanted to take a peek at a new feature with my existing configuration and libraries, I would sometimes install 32bit temporarily.

I can achieve the same thing with symlinks in calibre portable.
