Performance on Raspberry PI
I am running Calibre 6.3.1 on a Raspberry Pi 4 B with 2 GB of RAM. When I import books from files sometimes it is fast and other times slow. It slows down a lot if I am importing more than 100 books. I have plenty of memory available and the temp area is not full at all. So why does the speed fluctuate so much? Is it book format dependent? Does it matter if some of the books are in sub-directories ( I tell Calibre to import from a directory and all subdirectories)? Is there any way to speed it up?

Importing in bulk is not optimised for memory usage as it is considered to be a rare operation. Most likely your PI is running out of ram and swapping use some memory monitoring tool to check.

Well I tracked the memory usage using WebMin and it is most of the time 50% and only occasionally up to 65%. This would seem to mean there is a lot of memory available. So I guess it is just a slow operation due to the bulk loading then?
