Issues with Kobo Aura One (Get List of Books on Device)

This has been going on for awhile. My Kobo connects to my laptop fine. The screen says "Connected and Charged."

I can explore the device on E:\KOBOeReader

Calibre recognizes the device. However, after 12 minutes it stalls out on "Get List of Books on Device." It then sends over some books I requested in seconds.

The Kobo has its latest software update and is syncing with Onedrive normally.

I have tried things in the past (a hard reset, formatting the storage, etc.)

I just can never see the library of books on my Kobo. I can send files over just fine from calibre once it gives up trying to see the Kobo library. It also ejects normally.

Thanks for your help.

"IOError: disk I/O error

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "calibre\gui2\device.py", line 88, in run
File "calibre\gui2\device.py", line 540, in _books
File "calibre\devices\kobo\driver.py", line 2024, in books
apsw.IOError: IOError: disk I/O error"

I read somewhere once this might be a hardware/flash memory issue. It has not progressed or otherwise harmed my reader in the past 2-3 years, though.

With Calibre SHUT DOWN.
Try and repair the disk structure using Windows drive tools to scan (and repair)
Right click on the Kobo drive in File Explorer: Tools: check

Thank you for your reply.

"Scanning and repairing..." but nothing ever appears on the bar. That's what I remembered happening from before.

I can still browse the files on E:, though, so the drive works.

The error is when reading the database. It means the database is corrupt. If you restart the device, you will probably lose the reading status for recent books, or have books added recently not shown. This is because the device will not have been able to update the database as things change. It is also likely that the device will not be able to read the database at all and will prompt you to setup the device again.

If you have a recent backup of the database, you can restore that to minimize losses. But, do not know of anyway to recover the database when it gets to that state.

At least with my Overdrive books it saves my place perfectly? Weird. So this would have been a warranty issue if I'd caught it early enough? Is there anything Rakutan Kobo can do to help me?

Is that happening when you restart the device? But, if you are reading Overdrive books borrowed through the device, then the reading position is being synced to the server. And it might be synced back from the server.

It could be faulty storage. If it happened within the warranty period, they would have replaced it. But, now, it could be age. Or, it might be fixed when you do a factory reset.
