Troubleshooting Adding sideloaded books to Collections for unregistered Kindle

I've just jailbroken my KT4 Kindle (running 5.13.6), & successfully installed KUAL etc. (Many thanks to all the brilliant people who make that possible.)

I've sideloaded all my books via Calibre, and set up Collections via Kindle Collections & Librarian Sync. So everything is working well & showing up in the right places on the Kindle EXCEPT - I can't Add a Collection on the Kindle, and I can't Add/Delete a book from a Collection (options are greyed out). This matters on a regular basis because when I've read a new book for the first time, I've been in the habit of adding it to my Read collection on the Kindle. That way I can keep track of what I need to update in Calibre and GoodReads.

I haven't registered my Kindle at all nor turned on wi-fi because I really really don't want firmware updates as I think they will break the jailbreak. If that is causing my problem, is there any way round it?

1) block OTA firmware updates by renaming two OTA-related binaries using this KUAL extension:

2) then connect to WiFi and register your Kindle to your Amazon account.

It looks as if that extension hasn't yet been tested on 5.13.6, so I'll ask in that forum. Thanks for the suggestion.

It has been tested on 5.14.x and it works. Don't be so paranoid about turning on the WiFi...
