KOReader hanging after sleep, have to hard reboot

Lately I’ve been having a consistent problem with my Kobo Clara HD being stuck on the KOReader screensaver (book cover w/ custom text) when I pick it up after it’s been asleep for a while, such as overnight. I have to do a forced reboot by holding the power button to get it to wake up again (which always makes me nervous). I’m wondering if this was something related to the last Kobo OS update. I’ve had the problem over multiple KOReader updates, including the most recent stable build (currently running nightly, last updated about a week ago)

Is this a known problem? Is there a known resolution? I can’t seem to find anything about this problem on github nor here.

On a Clara? Hard to say, but it *is* on my dreaded "potentially flaky" list of NTX boards, so, who knows ;o).

Verbose debug logs might not be much help if it's an actual hang, for obvious reasons, but they'd be better than nothing.

When you mention that you have to reboot the device, do you actually have to *hard poweroff* it first? Or a simple short-long power press suffices, like a standard power on from off?

(Because, err, you might simply have autoshutdown set to a short delay and no dedicated message on screen because of your custom text).

I have to hold the power button for 10+ seconds (not sure the exact duration, but quite some time).

I looked at crash.log and don’t see anything. I’ve enabled debug logging and will turn on debug mode in the kobo OS too so that I can get syslog and dmesg logs as well — maybe I’ll find something.

EDIT: Auto power off is disabled in Kobo settings, and …ugh… autoshutdown was set to 3 days… did the default change, or have I just been so busy that I’m only now discovering that the setting was turned on?!? Haha… (embarassed)
