Kobo Book Total Page Numbers Wrong

I’ve noticed at frequently the number of pages shown in the book at the bottom of the page is a lot more than what the Kobo website shows the total pages should be. For example I’m reading Kingdom of Ash and it’s showing it as being over 2500 pages but the Kobo website says 880. The Kindle version is apparently 998 pages. How is my Kobo showing it as 2500!?

I should also mention that I never adjust the font or margins from the default. It’s not like my font is set super huge or anything.

Anyone know why this is happening?!

Are you using kepub?

If yes, kepub page number follows one screen = one page rule, and it changes depending on your font size/margins/interline.

Kobo webpage show the page number informed by the publisher (which should match with ADE version, should being the operative world here).

I have trouble understanding worrying about page numbers in a reflowable book where font size, line spacing, margins, etc. will all affect the number of screens required to view a book.

That being said, if you are syncing the books from Kobo's site, you are seeing page counts based—loosely—on the number of screens it will take to display the book. Whereas the page counts on the Kobo website appear to use a number supplied by the publisher which seems to match a specific pbook edition, the number from an embedded page list which would be also be derived from a specific physical book or the number of pages produced by the Adobe Synthetic Page Number algorithm or Kobo's in-house version of a that algorithm.
