Large spaces between every line

I am running Calibre 5.44. I have Kindle PW5, 11th generation, just purchased within the last two weeks. I have some EPUB books with no DRM. When I convert them to azw3 and send to my Kindle and open the book, there are large spaces between every line. I have tried the following:
> Remove unused css
> Enble Heuristic Processing
>Delete Blank Line between Paragraphs
Can someone please tell me how to remove the large spaces between every line. This is how the book looks on my Kindle:

Captain James T Kirk, commanding the United Starship Enterprise, pressed

his forefinger against a button on the log computer's control panel, shutting it

off.

What do I need to do to correct the above spacing problem?
Thanks in advance for any help that might come my way!
Mike :-)

You need to remove the line-height values, either in the editor or using the conversion option Styling -> Other CSS Properties. Type line-height in the box if you want to use the latter option and see if it helps. If not, manual editing is needed.

Check your Kindle settings in AA. Make sure it's set to be the smallest light height. Another fix is to side load ChareInk (font) and use that as it does reduce the line height for KF8 (AZW3).

CharInk can be found here. Download the hinted version.

Also, please load the converted eBook in the editor and show us a sample of the HTML code and CSS so we can see what's going on.

ChareInk

Hi JSWolf & Sirtel,

Thank you both for the information! Is ChareInk a plugin for Calibre?
If yes, then what is the difference between Weight-Hinted and NoWeight -Hinted?
Since I have Kindle PW5, 11th generation I will choose the Hinted as you suggested.

Sirtel, I am also going to try your suggestion!

Thank you both for the suggestions! I will try both!

ChareInk is a font. The difference is that one has added weight because back when I posted the font, Kindle's did not allow adding weight to fonts. Use the NeWeight-Hinted version and adjust the font weight how you want.

Did you check that you are set to the smallest line-height setting on your Kindle? Also, can you please post some sample HTML code and the relevant CSS? Thanks.

JSWolf,
I found out that I was at fault for the large spacing between lines. I was renaming the downloaded epub file(i.e. the actual downloaded file on my desktop). That was causing the problem. When I stopped renaming the file and used calibre to rename the book then there were no more problems! Thanks for all your help!

Can you please explain exactly how you were renaming and what you were doing that caused this excess line height?

JsWolf,
I was wrong. My changing the title of the actual downloaded file had nothing to do with the large space in between each sentence. These are e-books downloaded from z library.
Apparently, who ever uploaded the books did a very poor job. Z library seems to be hit or miss. About 50% of the time the books are perfect. The other 50% not so much.

You should not be coming to MR asking for help on pirated eBooks.

Books no longer in print or as an e-book

I have only been downloading books that are no longer in print and not available as an e-book, e.g. "Spock Must Die" and "Spock Messiah."

OOP (out of print) does NOT cancel a Copyright. Only the Copyright OWNER (could be the estate/heirs) can give permission for early release.
