New 6.8" Paperwhite - thoughts?
Anyone have the new, larger 6.8" Paperwhite yet? How does it compare to previous versions?

I have been using mine since about Christmas. I love the size of the screen. Not crazy about the home page but it doesn’t bother me I keep mine on the library page. Also I didn’t get the the SE PaperWhite it don’t care about the wireless charging and don’t need the extra storage.

I’ve had mine (SE) since November. I find it much better than the previous generation Paperwhite.
* quite a bit faster for many operations — this alone made it upgrade worthy * display has slightly more contrast * larger display is nice to have and it is not much larger/heavier * supports 5GHz Wi-Fi, downloads seem faster * ‘warm’ light (not something I use) SE-exclusive features are: * wireless charging * auto-brightness sensor * no ads on Lock Screen ($20 to remove from base model) * additional 24GB storage For me it was worth getting SE. I have no idea what I’ll ever use the storage for but the other 3 things are nice. |

I love mine. The screen is clear, the lighting more uniform, USB c charging. This is comparing mostly to the older Paperwhite, oasis, and voyage. It's my favourite kindle by far

On average I charge my PaperWhite every 3 weeks, I don’t see paying more for the wireless charger. I also never have more than 8 books on my Kindle at a time and see no need for the extra storage. I have had other kindles that had auto brightness and never used it and to be honest didn’t like it when I tried it.

I had the Voyage and loved it but died after a many years of use. I had the Oasis and didn’t like it and returned it. While I have an iPad mini I dislike reading on it. I also have the Fire HD10 but again not for reading books. I love the PW5 the size is great for my old eyes. And reading on e-Ink doesn’t try me out like trying to read on the iPad or Fire tablet.

Wireless charging isn’t strictly necessary, but it saves wear and tear on the port and it’s tidier than having charging cables for everything.
Auto-brightness works well enough; I switch to Dark mode when the lights go down. One small thing is that I wish is that the Warmth value had a separate value for Dark mode (just as Brightness does). In Dark mode I want text to be as white as possible, but to do that Warmth has to be kept at 0. |

Some create significant interference due to bad design. It's inductive coupling. Eink based ereaders use so little power and newer ones charge fast. I hardly ever need to charge, as there is sufficient charging when connected to Calibre. I'll leave it connected a while after eject. Also the frequency of charging is much less than any phone. |

I love wireless charging with my phone. It is convenient for devices that need charging frequently, like phones. I do think it's overkill for e-readers that need charging so infrequently.

I hope it works better than on the Oasis, which is alarmingly likely to boost to full brightnes in a bright ambient environent. (And hard to notice because the ambient light is well, bright.)
