Font becomes blurry after using dictionary
Got a libra 2, each page font renders pretty sharp initially. However, if I do a lookup with the dictionary, the font would immediately becomes fuzzy and lose contrast, until the next page turn happens.
This is quite annoying, and tweaking the refresh rate (per page or per chapter) doesn't affect it at all. Is this a known issue? If so, are there existing workaround for this? Thanks! |

i've never noticed this with any firmware release on the Libra 2 (with the font i read with).
What firmware release are you on? (If you applied kobopatches and are on pre-4.32 release, did you change the dictionary typeface?) Does this issue occur with all fonts? (Are you using your own side loaded fonts?) |

I'm on the latest (updated last week). And on the native font it is less obvious, but on my sideloaded Bookerly it is quite obvious.

Are you reading ePub or KePub when this issue happens? I've tested both and it does not happen.
I'm using ChareInk (font) (can be found here). Last edited by JSWolf; 06-16-2022 at 01:51 PM. |

i do not use Bookerly myself nor have it side loaded. i do know that Bookerly presented some Kobo rendering issues in the past (posts) which appeared to be related to source/font version and possibly epub/kepub type.
Make sure you have the latest available version of Bookerly. Not sure if this is the absolute latest one but it appears there are 3 font file versions -- one for "display", lcd and other (e-ink?). Not sure whether one should side load the "display" version or the regularly named (other) files -- i assume the lcd font set will be the worst(?). From the sounds of it.. this is a font file content issue -- not necessarily corruption but due to the rendering parameters the particular set of font files were generated with. (As previously indicated, i have not experienced this with the font i use on my Libra 2 -- the only thing i have noticed with the last 2 firmware releases is some residual ghosting with the "back arrow" from the dictionary page.) |

I also tested Bookerly (gotten from a Kindle firmware bin file) and I have no problem with it looking fuzzy after doing a dictionary lookup. |

It is kinda subtle, probably won't bother a lot of people. I tried to record that into a video, but it's a bit difficult to capture. I did download the Bookerly font from aws developer site: https://developer.amazon.com/en-US/a...nes/typography , so the font themselves should be fine. Other fonts ain't immune from this issue, just their letters are skinnier so the issue is less obvious. I did try ChareInk, it more or less has it too, not as bad as Bookerly. I guess for now as suggested one extra tap on the menu and dismiss is the only way to workaround, other than teach myself to be more tolerate of this. Thanks for the help tho. |

As a workaround, you can also change the Dictionary window settings to make it "Large window" and enable Screen → E-ink Settings → uncheck "Avoid mandatory black flashes in UI". This way, the whole screen will be refreshed when exiting the dictionary window.

Where are you doing that? Nothing mentioned is an option in the Kobo UI. Is it KOReader, Plato or some other third-party application on a Kobo? Or a completely different device?
