Importing Amazon doesn't default to AZW3

Since updating Calibre I have discovered that my Amazon imports which used to automatically convert to AZW3 are now just AZW, does this mean that polishing and other AZW3 specific functions with Calibre and various plugins won't work? Should I convert them?

You should normally see either MOBI or AZW3 format for an imported Kindle book. If a book imports as AZW that usually means that DRM removal has failed.

I know it's weird, but since February I am getting some AZW formats that aren't DRM'ed.

I have multiple editions of Calibre and Calibre Portable running on my computer for various reasons and I am not sure which one I was using to import the files that stayed AZW since I usually use the Portable version with is really old but I just use it to import only into my "import library" then close out and open with my regular Calibre.

I should look into seeing exactly how this happens

Not getting MOBI, they are just coming AZW. Is this the same?

Ok, so I figured it out. DeDRM from before it was changed to update newest version of Amazon stopped working. I got a syntax error when I tried to re-install it.

The books that aren't being converted but still open must not have DRM to begin with.

When you download eBooks from Amazon using KindleforPC, they all come with a .azw extention regardless if they are Mobi or KF8. When you load them into Calibre, the file extension is changed to .mobi for Mobi format and changed to .azw3 for KF8 format. As for the eBooks you listed, I know for sure that Heroic Hearts is available in KF8 and if you could remove the DRM, you would see that it is.

As to your error, it could be that the version of DeDRM you have could be too old for the version of Calibre you have. I suggest you update your version of Calibre to the latest version from https://calibre-ebook.com. Also update DeDRM from https://github.com/noDRM/DeDRM_tools/releases. You want 10.0.2. Then try again and see what haoppens. But update both Calibre and DeDRM from the sites I posted.

Heroic Hearts stayed AZW and did open. I need to fix some things. Long story short. I like to use the Get File Name plugin. It doesn't work well past a certain Calibre version. I think it has to do with the DeDRM plugin. Anyhow, my goal is to get a version of Calibre that runs the DeDRM AND the Get File Name plugin properly. I must have changed something.

Looking at your log file, it appears that calibre is throwing an error message trying to initialize the dedrm plugin. Which version of DeDRM did you attempt to install?

Did you follow my directions and update your Calibre and the DeDRM plugin from the links given?
