New Feature Kobo driver: Allow using templates to generate collections

This feature was mentioned for the latest version 5.43.0
Are there any pointers on how this is supposed to work?

It came out of a discussion between @chaley and myself in https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=346321. I think everything important is covered in that.

The main thing is that you can specify a template to return a list of names to use as collections. The list has to be separated by ":@:". This will work with the existing template columns. Or you can use it by itself. Or just stick to the columns. The template is entered in the driver configuration.

That's is about it. There are some more details in the thread plus some examples. @chaley gives an example of a template that uses the device's serial number to decide on the collections to be created.

What I'm missing in your & Chaley's discussion is the intended net result on the Kobo side: IAW what is Kobo supposed to show on its collections pages after using the templates? A screen dump would be helpful.

I know, you and Chaley can certainly dream in Python code and do have intimate knowledge about calibre's inner works: being a mere mortal, I cannot.

Assuming the output of the template is correct then you see the results as collections, similar to what you see if you put a column such as tags in the collections box. The template permits you to build collections that aren't in a column. For example I build collections for the first letter of an author's last name, "Authors: A", "Authors: B", etc. This saves me lots of scrolling on the author's page.
