Two Manga/Comic Kobo Questions
I recently purchased a Humble Bundle mess. It's the sloppiest bundle I have ever purchased by Kadokawa. Some comics are epub. Some are CBZ. And the CBZs don't load covers in the Kobo correctly, especially the ones that I converted from epub.
1) Is there a way to tell Kobo to load the first page as the cover? For some reason, all of these CBZs in the bundle have a blank page for page two, and Kobo chooses **this** page as the cover page. I've not had this problem with CBZs before. 2) I read here before (possibly a comment by DavidFor) that there is a way to mark CBZ files as manga for Kobo. Basically, to have them read right to left. I've poked around Calibre, and I'm not seeing this setting. Could somebody help me out? Thanks so much! |

From memory, the cover of a CBZ, is the first file when the names are sorted. But, it is sorting lexigraphically, not like Windows does. An example I have, the files "1.jpg", "100.jpg" and "99.jpg" are in that order. The last time I checked, subdirectories are handled correctly, but, with the same rules.
For Manga, I think you want to set the reading direction. You can do that using my Kobo Utilities plugin. The metadata update function can do this. Select the manga once they are on the device and run this. The reading direction is one of the options. |

Two Manga/Comic Kobo Questions
Thank you! I *knew* you had mentioned something to me before, but I was poking around inside Calibre’s metadata controls, not your utility’s. This is going to save me a massive amount of time because I can batch process the entire collection.
As for the other problem, I figured out what I did wrong. I converted in Calibre this way: EPUB>zip>CBZ. That would explain why I’ve made a mess for myself. Because I’ve done this with AZW3 comics for years, I just assumed it would work, but as I discovered when I explored the file, the cover isn’t part of the page numbering: Attachment 193781 I’m sure people have covered converting epub to CBZ before. I’ll look through the forums. What way have you seen works best? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro Last edited by Cootey; 05-12-2022 at 06:15 AM. |
