I got a second hand note air for cheap to use primarily as reader.
The included neoreader is "ok" for me but some stuff is irritating, like it seams it has only global font settings, if i change the font size in one book it changes it in all that are open and it's far from consistent in layouting. I also can't seam to get the font/layout menu pop up consistently, might be me ... Any good (simple ) alternative readers to install / test on android ? (i'm coming from pocketbook 840 reader - never used an android e-reader ) any pointers are appreciated. |

I have a Note Air 2. You'll get many suggestions, no doubt, but what works is what is best for you. I suggest trying several and then buying the Pro version of the one you like best. The ones I'll suggest are Moon Reader, Librera Reader, and KOReader. AlReader may also be worth a try.

I suggest KOReader unless you can find something better. Forget Moon Reader. It's garbage.
If the other's mentions support the CSS properly, then give them a try. Otherwise, don't bother. |

Nonsense. Moon+ Reader is one of the few reading apps which can handle furigana in Japanese correctly. I also appreciate the versatility it offers for choosing how to look up a selected word. Instead of just allowing lookup in Colordict or Goldendict, I can select it to use another app to search for the word. Consequently, I exclusively use Moon+ Reader Pro when reading in Japanese.

You can also turn off "Apply Font, Contrast, Spacing Style settings to all files" in the global and then you can apply settings individually to different books. Neoreader has warts but honestly out of the ones I've tried it's my favorite and they have improved it quite a bit since I got it. Although they've created some new bugs in 3.2.1... |

Moon+ Reader Pro works very well with Hanping Pro (for Chinese) and a Japanese dictionary/study app simply called Japanese (its icon consists of a red square with the characters 日本語 in white inside it). Those are the only two apps I've tried it with and they both work well. |

Despite my grumpage, Onyx's in-build default app (NeoReader - you won't see its icon on your launcher but it is there) and KOReader are purpose-built for E-Ink unlike Moon+ or ReadEra or any of those popular Android apps and therefore they give the least screen artifacts and are the fastest in response with page turn and bluetooth remotes too imho. Some remotes the speed is massively different. KOReader you can connect to Calibre via Wireless Server within the app too I believe and has a bunch of features which sort of mimic things I use in Moon+ though its dictionaries are more limited but still probably better than Neo. I think KOReader is much better than NeoReader for customisation too. I notice you're looking for PDF, PDF in general doesn't look amazeballs on an 8inch of anything E-Ink or not but E-Ink specific apps might be your best bet there given screen-size. I'd love to see what Moon+ Pro looked like on the Note Air C though especially as I can nightmode PDFs on that. The cool thing about Onyx is you can just have any Android apps on their either through enabling Google Play Store or just APKMirror > sideloading. Road test, see what suits your needs most. You can also add public library apps which is handy for free content - Libby and BorrowBox plus PressReader for magazines and papers if your library offers that as a service. |

thanks for your useful suggestion, i regret getitng the colour - it doesnt add anything for me so far.... for my purpose anywhere, yeh i guess pdf are too small
currently using the inbuild reader, i dont like the 'time' at the bottom of screen, not sure i can get rid of that.... / kor reader seems very similar too. i will have a look at moon reader now also is it possible to install the kindle bookerly fonts? on these devices |

Moon Reader with the Outdoor theme is one of the best-looking reader apps on E-Ink, even if it wasn't designed with E-Ink in mind.
If you want to install Bookerly - or any fonts - it's quite simple. Go to Storage or use a file manager app if you've installed one. Create a folder called Fonts. Place any fonts you want in that folder. Reboot. Done. |

No one mentioned eReader Prestigio - I think it's the best one of the bunch. I really like the book shelf appearance which is similar to Apple Books and then very strong text to speech engine options - neural etc.
