Help! Input issues.

I spent quite a lot of time naming my book files so that they were all organized.
Author last name, Author first name - series name - book name.
They are all done the same way.
When I input the books into Calibre, they are added in all different ways. Sometimes the book name is first, sometimes the author name isn't listed, sometimes it is listed as author first then author last.
I have a couple thousand books and really don't want to take the time to edit them within the program.
In preferences, I also chose for the meta data not to be read, just the file name.
Is there any way at all I can get things to load into calibre the way that I want them?

See the section in the calibre documentation on Guessing Metadata from filenames. https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/gui...ename-metadata

This will let calibre read title / author etc from the filename (but only when you add the book to calibre).

On a side note:
Get the Quality check Plugin
The Fix section will swap selected Author name mode, allow you to format author initials (consistently)

My files are author and then book name. I have a couple thousand files already named this way. Is there any way to get calibre import them as I have them?

Thank you. That will be a help for the files that have the author name swapped. Is there a way to swap what calibre put in as a book title with what they have for author name?

Calibre Metadata editor has that built in. (also works in Bulk mode. Just be careful to select ONLY those to fix)

Thank you! Doing them individually is much better than retyping them in the proper fields.

If you read that document you'll see you can set the template however you want!

I did look into the templates and just couldn't figure them out, but thank you for the idea.
