QDL/EDL for Note 2

I have a Onyx Boox Note 2 and have been trying to list and dump partitions with an edl tool, but without any success so far. Has anyone else had any success, or can offer any tips?

I made a cable to make the device go into QDL mode since neither adb nor fastboot seems to be able to make this device go directly into QDL mode. I can see the correct 05c6:9008 USB ID in lsusb, and the power button blinks red.

I tried both bkerler/edl and the Windows emmcdl.exe tools but neither seems to work. I also tried them on different hardware systems in case that was an issue.

I suspect I need a correct loader/programmer. I tried many different programmers I found for the msm8953, but none seem to work. I just get timeout errors.

The Note 2 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 (SDM625) msm8953, like the Max 3. I did see Diab0w's thread about his work.

Hmm. I have never gotten an EDL cable to work. I've never been sure of the timing of connection/button pushing/power. It could also be that muxes for analog audio on some devices prevent it from working. The Onyx devices seem to be good about putting accessible EDL test points on the PCBs. I put a magnetic reed switch on my Poke3 so I can get to EDL whenever I want, no matter what.

But have you tried my edl.exe (in the sig)? Have you got a Zadig driver installed? Post your HWID and Hash.

There must be something wrong with my method or environment because nothing works. I've tried a couple of different tools on both linux and Windows, on at least two different sets of PC hardware, and multiple devices.

I found an old Lenovo tablet with the same sdm625 SoC and it's not working either, and I'm 100% sure I have the right firehose programmer for it because Lenovo publishes the file in their recovery tool. This is probably one of the only good things I will ever say about Lenovo.

Once I get this figured out I will look into doing more work on my Note 2. I don't want to start trying to load in custom bootloaders when I don't have a recovery method. The fastboot recovery in this device is completely worthless and can't be used for anything other than wiping /data and /cache.

Hmm, is your device OEM unlocked? I didn't think that the ROM code cared, but I'm not sure now.
Settings > System > Advanced > Developer > OEM unlocking
Or go to fastboot, then "fastboot getvar all" or "fastboot getvar unlocked".

But did you explicitly get rid of any Qualcomm drivers and other stuff, plop Renate's edl.exe in a folder with your loader file and use Zadig for drivers? I couldn't get bkerler or a million driver things and different tools to work on my Leaf either. Renate's method was a breeze.
