What is this stuff clinging to the top protective layer of the screen?

It doesn't come off when scraped, and isn't on the screen itself, just the top protective layer. It looks extremely ugly when reading, so I want to remove the stuff. Can provide other pictures if needed!

Unless you still have the factory protection layer on it, which should come of easily, it looks like you something corrosive has been on the screen.

Just here to second that this is not at all normal, something has been done to your screen.

This happened when I detached the front protective layer from the screen -- it was literally glued on to the screen unit. Is there any way to remove it? Here is a picture of what it looks like on the other side:

How long did you leave the protective film on the screen?

Did you buy this device new? Take it back. That is not remotely normal and the factory protective layer just lifts away with the pull tab.

Or did you buy it secondhand and someone had put some sort of glued third-party protector on?

Wait - you have other posts about replacing the display, and about you "melting" the glue all around the device?

You need to start this post again with ALL the information.

If this is a new device, I'd exchange it.

It's been like this since it was assembled? This isn't a screen protector. It's the front panel of the ereader that holds the front light.

Sorry for not mentioning that. I replaced the screen, yes. This is the front panel that sits in front of the screen to protect it. Not sure if the glue holding it to the screen ruined it, or something else. I got it already broken, and wanted to repair it to prevent it from being trashed.

I don't think there is anything in front of the panel to protect it. I am fairly sure these screens come as a single piece ready to install. And they set in the bezel with nothing in front of them. That is the case of the older screens. It could be different for the Aura ONE, but, I don't think so. If you have removed something, it might have been the touch layer or even the light guide.

We do get questions about putting a screen protector on them, but, I have never looked into it myself. If one was installed, removing it could leave residue or something like you are seeing.

This is the panel I'm talking about! The touch layer and lights are attached to it. And the screen is behind it. Please see the above image. If you look at a Kobo ereader, the layer I'm talking about is what you are touching when you use the touch screen.

As I said, to the best of my knowledge, there is no protective layer to be removed. On a second-hand device, someone might have added one. Whether that can be safely removed, I don't know.

Here is a clearer video of the part I'm talking about.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1z-C...ew?usp=sharing

This is the panel that fits over the screen unit. Really not sure if the discoloration is due to the glue they use to attach the panel to the screen.

OK, I can see it now. The Aura ONE has a flush bezel. That includes a layer over the screen. And that is separated from the screen. But, sorry, can't help. I don't remember seeing one of these pulled apart like this before. I have no idea how to solve the problem.

No worries! At least it works. Really thought I'd break it and have to toss it!
