Sum of Word Count

Is it possible to add totals to the library page?

I would like a sum of the word count for the list of books displayed in the current view as shown in the image.

Based on the silence, I assume adding totals is not possible?

It is not a true spread sheet (it is a flattened view of a RDB), so there is no Column Add
You could export (calibre-db --list) as CSV and use a spreadsheet *eg calc* to do that kind of lifting.

Ok, I had an inkling that was the case. But I hoped there might have been some unconventional solution someone had come up with.

You need some sort of sqlite report generator (and a steep learning curve to get the data you want)

It is doable. But you need to know how to write a plugin in Python 3.

Are you sure? I mean, there are no plugins that do what @Karellen has asked. And there are two reasons for that. One is that there is no field down there to updated, and the other is that I do not believe there is a mechanism to hook into to do. Of course, a plugin could do the sum and display it as a message in the status line, but, the plugin would have to be triggered, and the value would disappear as soon as something else was displayed there.

Of course there is the Sum Column plugin. But, it displays the sum in a message box, and has to be run from a button or menu.

Reread what you posted. You said "It is doable". That says that you know that what @Karellen is asking for is possible in a plugin. IT IS NOT. You were just making you usual incorrect statement about something that you have absolutely no knowledge about.

And your second post tries to pretend you meant something completely different. @Karellen asked for something fairly explicit. I explained why it could not be done*. And pointed out a plugin that does exactly what you are now claiming would need to be done (have the author decide how to deal with it). As you obviously missed it, this is Sum Columns.

* Of course, the support for something like this could be added. But, it has to be added in base calibre first.
