Why won't emails from Calibre go to my new Kindle?
Hi all, new to this forum. You can imagine how unamused I was when I plugged in my new Kindle only to find I can't directly send non Amazon books to it like I could with my old one. I did a little research and people said the easiest way was to email the books to the Kindle. I have tried several times and they won't go through. I'm on a MAC and I've also tried to drag and drop books onto the Kindle. One book showed up in the library buy the other ones don't show so Im guessing they're in the wrong format. They do show they are on the Kindle but they don't show up in the library. Can anyone help walk me through a solution for this? Thanks.

This may be too simple a response but, just to be sure:
1. The kindle will only show a limited group of file types. It will show "mobi" , "azw" "kfx", html, txt and pdf. It will not show "epub" files, which are the most common non-Amazon ebooks. 2. The types of files you can mail to a kindle is different and excludes some files the kindle could display directly, such as azw). You can not mail epub files. Did that help? |

Sorry, my bad. It's a new paperwhite, purchased last December.
My old paper white sitting with over 500 books on it and regular use since 2013 felt in need of a replacement but Amazon's selfishness is a little off-putting. |

I have a couple of folders of ebooks that I think are a bit random as for format. I know a lot of them are EPUB.

I was trying to figure out to change the format of all the books on Calibre to Mobi but I couldn't get it. Tried a couple of things that didn't seem to work.

In the calibre GUI, select one or more books. Right click on a selected book, select either convert individually to allow finer control over options on each book or convert in bulk to use the defaults. Select mobi as the output format and click ok.
To preset the default options, go into Preferences => Conversion => Common options and Output options (I've never had to play with the Input options.). You may also want to check the calibre FAQ for conversion. |

I tried the convert option with the right output and it still didn't work. Any ideas? I also tries another email test and that also did not work.
