Does this ereader exist?

I've had Kindles for about 13 years. With every major firmware update, they get more fussy. I have turned off wifi to prevent the latest, but I'm stuck with the previous update.

Just for fun, I took out my old Kindle Keyboard last night and after charging it for a VERY long time it fired up. I was delighted with the simplicity of the interface. Just my books, no "Home Screen", no "Recommendations". Nothing else going on, no resemblance to a tablet or a smartphone whatsoever. I was also totally comfortable with navigating using the keyboard. I was even happy with the lighted case (which still worked!). However, the weight of the device in that case was too much. Also, the thing only has 2gb storage and I have a big library.

Is there any device out there that has:

*A front lit, 6-7" e-ink screen
*At least 4gb
*No connection to any store
*No options to anything other than read (leaves out Android e-inks)
*Ability to sort into collections
*Ability to create and export highlights

I'm comfortable using Calibre and have all my books liberated and stored in my Calibre library.

Of course, I would like the display and the formatting to look nice.

Thanks.

The closet you will get is a Kobo Libra 2 with the patches. It's the closest to what tyou want as you'll be able to get.

Maybe a PocketBook, although they do have some very basic games on them.

Thanks. Are there any known "side effects" from applying the patches?

Thank you. I haven't really looked into them well enough. I found the web page a bit confusing, but I'll go back. Games are not an issue for me really.

Yes, tearing your hair out!
I've been having problems applying a font patch, but then I'm totally non-techy. I'm sure you'll have better luck.

Oh, and your spouse, cat, dog, children etc might get annoyed by all the swearing as you toss your computer keyboard through the window.

Not at all. Simple to apply and once you've customized to your liking you'll wish you had done it sooner.

Try a Kobo without the Patches for a week.
I never did anything to my Kobo Touch, original H2O or Original Libra. The only thing I did to Elipsa was the "one click" menu & KOReader install purely to have margin cropping on PDFs.

I've had/have numerous Kindles, 2x Sony (still have 5") and a Nook. Kobo distraction free & never used Shop.

I think, at the minimum, I would need to set things up so that my Calibre tags would automatically create collections on the Kobo. That would be my main reason for choosing it.

But, even so, that's good advice, to get to know the device as it is. Actually, I don't even know if the collections feature involves a patch. It might be something configured entirely on Calibre. I haven't gone that deeply into it.

So far as I know, Kobo doesn't have a way to export highlights/notes. Am I wrong there?

Otherwise a Kobo seems like it would fit your requirements.

Collections do NOT need a patch.
