Publication Date
Mostly out of curiosity:
Do people here prefer the original publication date, the publication date of the specific edition, or (via an extra column) both?

Definitely the ORIGINAL PUBLICATION!!
Why would I want, say The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which was published in 1979, listed as published 2018 because that happens to be the date of that release that I purchased? (crazy if you ask me )If I buy the Bluray of The Matrix, I expect it to be listed in 1999, not 2022 because that is when I purchased the newly released box set of the four movies.

I'm only interested in the date of the original publication.
I have it in a custom column, and I don't even look the date that comes with the book. |

Depends
![]() If it is just a reprint (format edits only), then the original date (eg Project Gutenberg) If there 'corrections' (bah! on PC ones) or other MAIN content differences, then it is a new edition. Using @Karellen BluRay example: Star Trek TMP added effects and backgrounds (Vulcan), so it is a new Edition that is different from my original Laserdisc version |

Edition publication date. But actually I don’t care about the date, especially with fiction.
