Hyper Transport Sync Flood Error with Sigil 1.9.2
I'm trying to work in Linux, with the distro MX 21. I have installed Sigil 1.9.2 from the Flatpaks repo (so I didn't compile Sigil by myself) and it works fine, except when I want to enable the Preview Panel or I want to dock it or undock it. Then, when I do that, invariably I get a "Hyper Transport Sync Flood Error". Of course, something linked with the Preview Panel must be producing the error, but what... I will thank any suggestion to try to fix this issue.

A web search says that error message is most likely related to BIOS issues including sometimes a faulty CMOS battery.
Preview uses QtWebEngine which makes heavy use of gpu and launches its own process as well. I found nothing in my search for that error with "QtWebEngine", so there does not appear to be a direct link. I would either build you own or grab the official distribution version and see if that helps. Flatpack may be packaging it with really old glibc and etc to make it more portable but possibly causing problems. |

I did find the following:
Quote:
If so, launching Preview will use QtWebEngine and create a lot of threads and make heavy use of the gpu, and increase power required. |

I believe I saw a few issues with the Flatpak build when the person who is maintaining it (which is not us) mentioned it on Github. Can't remember, now, what I saw there that gave me pause, and I can't find the issue now.

I think the issue must be linked with Sigil under Linux because under Windows I don't have any "Hyper Transport Sync Flood Error". If the cause were something linked with the battery or a glitchy BIOS version, the issue also should be present with Windows and no error there. I tried also with an old Sigil version (1.4) downloaded from the MX repo (so that is an "official" version), and the error is also there. Maybe is a lybrary that is in conflicting with "something". And no, my PC is not overclocked. Last edited by RbnJrg; 03-16-2022 at 03:48 PM. |

You got me.
What version of glibc does your MX-21 use? There have been reports of issues with QtWebEngine and glibc 2.34. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...c/+bug/1939993 Also the issue might be old or out of date graphics drivers on the linux side. You might want to try upgrading to a newer graphics driver. Also, since this is Sigil-1.9.2, you could try disabling the gpu for QtWebEngine (its a brand new Sigil Preference) and then restarting Sigil. Does that make the errors go away? Outside of that I got nothing ... |

It should be reasonably up to date but each linux distro names their packages slightly differently so you'll have to deal with that.

The Qt5 minimum for building the latest Sigil on Linux is now 5.10.0 and. I'm a little behind on my documentation. Things should still build with Python 3.4, but 3.5/6 is a more realistic minimum.

FWIW many graphics cards can stress older PSU's on models not equipped for other than a simpler (early generation) graphics.
If your system did not come with a card WITH a power connector, you need to use care when adding one with. (the cards spec recommend minimum PSU watts, and that does not consider overclocked CPU's). |

FWIW, Windows drivers could also be smart enough to throttle the GPU power, whereas the Linux drivers may not have this feature so even through no error on Windows does not mean that the power supply is not overloaded.
But again, this is all based on google searches for that exact error message so I have no first-hand knowledge. |

Thanks both, theducks and Kevin for your tips. I have installed Calibre, and I have the same error (in Windows, no error) and since Sigil and Calibre uses many libraries in common, I think that could be a track. In Calibre the issue is present when I open the Book Viewer and in Sigil when I dock or undock the Preview Panel. Out of that, both programs work fine and very stable.

Yes they both use QtWebEngine which launch extra threads and make heavy use of the GPU which increases computer power usage. They may not happen under Windows due to better thermal throttling.
The error represents a hardware failure in the Hyper Transport Link that causes a cpu reset. Everything I have found after extensive searching says it is hardware/power supply/bios related although I did find one hit that described a bad memory dimm. |

There's several gpu stress-test tools available for Linux. Might be worth a shot to see if it can happen outside of Sigil/Calibre.
