Ereader that can use adobe drm epub

Ereader that can use adobe drm epub
Hi, I have a bit of a strange one, I looking for some ereaders for use in a place with no internet.
They're for use in an "institution"

The books themselves are downloaded to a pc from the local public library server by the users onto a adobe digital editions program.

No problem, everything works fine and the books download fine, however if i try copying the book onto an android tablet or a kindle fire with the same adobe id and authorised the books are not seen.

It seems that for android devices an app called borrowbox is used but you need internet access to download the books.
I believe that some ereaers like kobo let you transfer from a PC.
Any ideas, my first choice would be to use an android tablet but if thats not possible which ereader would work.

P.S audiobooks are allowed too
Thanks

Any Kobo, Nook or Pocketbook should work with ADE on a PC.

I only got Belinda Borrowbox to work as Android app to the Irish Library direct on the Internet. I use a Likebook Mars eink Android after verifying it worked direct on a Lenovo tablet with Android.

The Library claims you can download to PC and use Adobe, but I've not tried that as my current PCs are Linux Mint.

Also I can't use Kindle or Kobo with the WiFi in any library as that uses a web login that doesn't work on them.

My Conclusion is that Irish Library IT is badly done.

It should work with a Kobo eink registered to ADE and Adobe on Windows, to transfer books. But though I have a Kobo I can't try it as I can't run a recent enough Adobe program. I only have XP on a VM.

The vast majority of the ebooks I read are read on the Kobo and are downloaded from Project Gutenberg.

The other problem I found with the Irish Library system is they often only have later books in a series. They claim it's the Publisher's fault.

That's a lie unless it's a georestriction issue.

Libraries don't get retail ebooks or pricing. Publishers do special deals, often separately with each library system/organisation. It's a licence also for a specific number of simultaneous loans.

It's impossible to know if the County Librarian lied or not. Also it may have been what the librarian has been told. Also UK & Ireland paper book libraries don't work the same as USA either. In addition to buying physical copies at a library price a small per loan royalty is paid to registered authors.

Archive org's Open Library is different again, they make up their own rules.

Also Publishers HAVE carved up the English speaking markets in a manner that is nasty. This is partly due to the USA ignoring British copyrights in the 19C and even up to 1960s. So all major publishers English editions ARE geo-limited. Often in Ireland people have privately imported US published books and magazines that the UK dominated distribution wouldn't import due to agreement with UK publishers.

My first thought was "prison". That probably says more about me than anything else. There are lots of other institutions that would have similar rules.

Will the institution be supplying and maintaining the devices? Or are you finding a list to recommend to the users to buy themselves.

Others have mentioned Kobo, Nook and Pocketbook. You can add tolino to that.

The latest version of firmware for Kobo has a "sideloaded mode" which means that the user does not need to sign into a Kobo account if there is no access to the internet. But, it does need someone to update the firmware. There are other problems with the firmware, but, they should be fixed before this becomes an issue for you, and I think the described usage will avoid these issues (so Jon, there is no need to comment).

I can't remember what DRM Borrowbox uses. It might be Adobe DRM or their own. For libraries using Adobe DRM, you would probably use the Libby app. But, that needs internet access, so would not help.

The issue I can see is that each device needs to be authorised with an Adobe account. And the copy of ADE running must be using that account. As these sound like common PCs, how is that managed? Individual accounts that can then have ADE for that user? Or common accounts? I can't tell if you have sorted that out already, or it is something that needs to be done.

With Kobo, you can sideload audiobooks, but, it isn't the best. And they do not support sideloading audiobooks with DRM.

Your first guess was spot on, The Library uses Adobe DRM. I was messing around with an Kobo aura hd and it seemed to work fine
I was thinking of everyone having an individual library login and adobe ID account. They'll be buying them themselves and the internet disabled using the parental controls.
I was looking thinking about the Kobo nia maybe.
Also the audiobooks can be dragged and dropped from PC to a cheap (25 euro) mp3 player that is already available to them, I tested an audiobooks and it worked fine.

Bolinda Borrowbox is only for the App. The Libraries in Ireland ALSO offer a PC download with instructions for Adobe on Windows, but that also is via Bolinda services.

I've only used the app. I didn't have a PIN, but when I emailed the Limerick County library they made a pin and emailed it when I emailed the barcode on my library card. The physical libraries were closed for a long time.

I bought a couple of Kobo Nia €80 in Argos at the moment, set up an email account for each based on the serial numbers then set up an Adobe ID for each on the the Kobo then I enabled parental controls to lock down the ereader
After that I set up a Kobo account for each of them, finally I set up a Library account. I selected a couple of test books and an audio book.
The moment of truth arrived and I plugged the Kobo into the PC and logged into the ADE and the Kobo showed up, I dragged the books across and logged out.
I then plugged in a cheap mp3 player and dragged the audiobook across.
I repeated the same with the other Kobo and everything worked fine! No problems, finally I installed Calibre on the PC for Gutenberg and other free books.

Repeat x 75 soon
Thanks to everyone for the help
