[Kobo] Numbers that I don't understand

Hello everyone,

first of all, I'd like to apologize if my english is not very good (not my mother language) and I if don't post in the right place, because I'm very new on this forum and on Calibre.

So, I converted an document .docx to the epub format. The upload on my very old Kobo Touch (2013) is working, the table of contents too. But numbers appear in the ebook (in the right order : 1, 2, 3, 4...) and I don't know why :
- In the page cover
- On the side of every single chapter number.
- Randomly in the text.

These numbers are not a lot, but I would like to remove them. I don't understand where they come from (I just can suppose they are some kind of split indicators)... I don't see any number in the html ; nor in the preview on my computer (runs on Ubuntu 18.04).

I don't know what I can tell more to explain better my problem...

Can someone help me ?

Thanks in advance.

Did you edit the EPUB you got from conversion?

Have you tried opening the EPUB you get from conversion in the calibre viewer? If you see the spurious numbers there, then the problem probably originates in the conversion settings or the DOCX file.

It would help us if you can recreate the problem with a small example and post the DOCX and EPUB here (in a ZIP). To attach a file to a post go into Advanced mode and click the paper-clip icon on the top tool bar

Oh and - Welcome to Mobileread

Check your styles in your source document. Whether you use Word or Writer (or whatever), some heading styles might be numbered for outline or level. This can be invisible in the text, you can only see it in the Style edit box. If you don't turn this off in the source doc, you will get numbering in the epub - that is, numbered list styles. I have this problem periodically with Writer if I do a "save as" to a docx format before conversion. I have no idea what I do to sometimes turn this on.

Or as BetterRed said, maybe you have some conversion setting set to number. Try turning everything to default before converting.

You can also fix it in the epub editor, but probably easier in the source or conversion.

Welcome, Grenade.
They seem to be "Adobe EPUB page numbers". In the Kobo Touch, turn them off at Reading settings (inside the book, on the gear icon; or at the main Settings screen).

Greetings.
