Cool Can't import ePub since Mac OS 12 upgrade

Hi,

After installing macOS 12.0.1 Monterey I cannot import epub files anymore. I get the following error:

calibre, version 5.30.0
WARNING: Errors while adding: There were problems adding some files, click "Show details" for more information

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Failed to add the file /Users/davidwb/Desktop/kallen.epub to the book: /Users/davidwb/Desktop/kallen
With error:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "calibre/gui2/add.py", line 488, in add_formats
File "calibre/db/cache.py", line 1573, in add_format
IsADirectoryError: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/Users/davidwb/Desktop/kallen.epub'

When I add PDF, JPG or mobi it works just fine. I have tried

- different users on the Mac,
- a new empty library
- moved the library
- upgraded Calibre
- tried several different epub files
- tried import from different directories

...and it is still the same.

I will try to attach a movie of how it looks. See attachment.

Does Calibre not support Mac OS 12?

From the "Is a directory: '/Users/davidwb/Desktop/kallen.epub'" line, it would seem that your Mac is unpacking epubs into a directory with the same name as the original epub. There are tools to recompress those directories back into epub files but I haven't used any of those scripts so don't know if they are still working.

Seems like it is not possible to transfer books from Apple Books to Calibre in MacOS 12. My wife downloads free books on her ipad. She opens them in Apple Books and sometimes she transfers them from Apple Books to Calibre on her Mac. It has always worked until now.

I tried to download the same free book on her iPad to Files (iCloud) instead and then transferred the file from iCloud Drive on her Mac to Calibre and that works fine.

So Apple have probably added some copy protection even on free books that doesn’t come from Books store.

Problem is still there but the work around is smoother.

Well…my wife usually download books and import them to Books on her iPad, then she transfers them from Books on her Mac to Calibre.

When she download the files they also end up in her iCloud Drive and from there she can import them to Calibre on her Mac without any issues.

You can not import those files because the mac system tries to protect your computer from any viruses. From what I know, the mac system is a pretty safe one, so I am sure it wants to protect your computer. Anyway, suppose you feel that your computer is vulnerable to any viruses. In that case, I recommend you use the cleanmymac x security app. I know many people who got hacked, so it's better to be safe and prepared in this kind of situation. That's why we should always use a security app and be always aware when browsing the internet.

Before using cleammymac, you might want to do a websearch on it ...
