[Kindle]It hit a wall...

I have a Kindle Oasis 10th Gen 64GB with the latest firmware, and all of the sudden some things popped up that have me mighty perplexed.
It initially started as not seeing covers. When that happened before I followed the well-known steps to correct (Ejecting, re-attaching, restarting afterwards, updating metadata, messing with the IDs, unplugging the USB cable while attached (scary that), etc.), but that's not working. I searched for other methods, but not one of them worked.

ALONG with that is another oddity that started at about the same time... when I add a book, after ejecting the Kindle it re-adds books that were already there, perhaps a dozen or so, so they are always the "recent" additions.

I was thinking about resetting, but wow, I have many, many thousands of books and I'd really not like to sit for days and days waiting for them all to re-upload not knowing if it will work.

I generally take the covers that are suggested after a search of metadata, and occasionally go to Goodreads if I'm not happy with the cover, and I always change the size to 1000X1600, though none of this affected any covers shown in the past.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I'd rather not go to list view. I paid for covers and I think I should see them.

For now, disable the reading list plugin. That was probably what put the books back (and one of those may be the real issue)

calibre never automatically sends books to a device, unless they are news downloads. SO it must be some plugin you have setup doing that. As for your cover issue, you can try doing a conversion to azw3 or mobi. Of late the kindle firmaware refuses to display cover images when theyhave any exif metadata.

Yes, I manually "send to device" after checking and setting the metadata. I can delete the few plugins I have to troubleshoot, and I checked the images for exif already, but will check again.

Thank you!

Well, nothing was working, and it made me go a bit crazy, so I did it... I reset the Kindle. Added some known problem books, ejected, reattached and ejected to fix the cover bug, there they were, all good.
Who knows what it was. Unlikely calibre as this has not happened to another soul and I've had zero issues to speak of the entire time I've owned it... a corrupt database? A corrupt Kindle? Who knows, but so far so good.
And thank you for your interest!

Now, how long will it take to add 8724 documents to my Oasis?

I had to follow up with what I finally figured out. I started adding books to the freshly nuked Kindle. When I got to about 4,000 books, I noticed that it was really bogging down checking the Kindle for books, and when I got to 5,000 it crashed, then the Kindle on restart would show the generic covers that could not be fixed. I glanced over at the app and noticed it was 32-Bit, which was the version I downloaded. I searched for and found the 64-bit-only version of calibre, removed ALL the books again (would not complete discovery, of course, so there was no choice), and it zipped right through installing the books with covers, no re-connect required. I can only suppose all this was caused by the 4GB RAM limitation on the 32-bit app?

I am celebrating by have some Glenlivet 18 year old on the rocks.

Perhaps this will help others with similar issues with larger archives.

yes, 64bit is better when dealing with large collections. In any case as of calibre 6 32 bit will be retired.
