Ebook loses progress + jumps out of collection whenever kindle is in sleep mode
I have a Kindle Paperwhite 10th gen, all software up to date. The ebook in question has been sideloaded from Calibre. It's only this one book!
I read some of it, I put it in a Collection. When my Kindle wakes up from sleep mode, the book is out of the collection and now shows my progress at 0% (although if I open it, it opens to where I was reading). The same thing happens any time I connect my Kindle to Calibre; the ebook hops out of the Collection and declares itself at 0%. I have tried converting the book into MOBI and AZW3 formats, redownloaded it, deleting it and its sdr files from my Kindle. No dice. I'm willing to bet it's something about the interaction between this book and my Kindle, rather than something wrong with the ebook file itself (see, redownloading it/converting it to different formats, etc). But I really have no clue what's going on, or how to fix it. It's only happening with this one book, none of my other files. |

Have you tried editing the epub file? Through Calibre or Sigil?
Tools, then Fix all HTML files. You can try giving it a go. There might be some html files/tags that are improperly placed. In my experience, Sigil has a stricter editing tool. It will show you possible errors with the tags on every html file you're viewing. Since you've said it's only happening with this particular book, then it might be the content of the book that Kindle is having a hard time reading. Also, have you tried renaming the book? How about stripping all the metadata and just dragging it into your kindle folder? If it's not with the content, then maybe your kindle/account is confusing it with another title you have on your library/cloud. I don't particularly like sideloading directly now because I'm a slave to whispersync. But I did so when I was still using a Kobo. I remember having to edit some ebooks in order for them to show/open properly back then. |

I'm going to keep monitoring it, but I tentatively think that just bypassing Calibre and dragging the file into the kindle folder worked. I didn't strip the metadata - I don't know how to do that, beyond manually erasing the visible bits via Calibre's Edit Metadata function. But fingers crossed, it wasn't necessary!
The book's been behaving itself for a bit now, so I'm hoping that whatever's wrong was fixed. If it starts misbehaving again, I'll try fixing the html. Thank you! |
