Series.

Is there a way to put way a series of books in order without using “collections”. The Stephanie plum series of 27 books is out of order and it bugs me! Or is there a way to put them in order if I have to use the collections folder?

Proven method to sort series by book number

If you use the Metadata Plugboards in Calibre you can use the series information to be added to the Author tag which then if sorted by author will order the books based on that.

I use the following format which outputs the author information as such
{series:|| }{series_index: >3s| Book | By }{author}

Jack West Jr Book 3 By Matthew Reilly

You can use this and then use the collections to group the book series and the author sort will order the books

My series order is also very important to me. I could never get them sorted correctly in my Kindle, or any of the kindle apps.

I purchased a Kobo Libra 2 which allows me to sort exactly as I want. Much happier with the Libra now than I was with the Kindle. I then added a "Singles" collection which is all the books not in a series, so I can browse by Series, or by Singles. Dramatically reduces the required scrolling to pick a book to read.

After 10+ years of Kindle use, I have now realised how restrictive the Kindle is.

Mine's the opposite. I went from Kobo to Kindle (when my kobo broke, the official and only retailer in my country isn't affiliated with Kobo anymore) so I'm experiencing how limiting it is to handle collections on a Kindle. Thankfully my collections aren't that extensive, and I only use them for book series and certain authors.

Going back to the OP's question. I use Calibre's plugboard too to automatically put the series name and number on the title so they're all in order.
