Book entry on tablet changed
I’m guessing this has been beaten to death SOMEWHERE, but I can’t find what I’m missing.
I've been using Calibre for a while, and when I found this problem I updated to 5.36 64-bit to see if that would help. Sometime in the not too distant past, something in Calibre changed and my configured template for sending ebooks to the tablet isn’t working the way it previously did. I copied the basic template from the calibre template language guide. It looks like this: {author_sort}/{title}/{title} - {authors} and for the book “The Foundation” by “Isaac Asimov” the will become: Asimov, Isaac/The Foundation/The Foundation - Isaac Asimov I’m not getting that. It looks like I’m just getting the title and nothing else. For example, if I send a book with author “Brad Abraham” and a title “Magicians Impossible: A Novel” using the above template, I get on the tablet an entry in the folder that says “Magicians Impossible_A Novel” books:1 folders: 0 That’s all. No author, nothing but the title and information about folders? What I USED to get is Author Title Series Size and Date… So, for the book “Massacre Pond: A Novel” by “Paul Doiron”, that’s the 4th book in the “Mike Bowditch” series, it would look like: Doiron Paul Massacre Pond: A Novel --- in a larger, clearer font than the rest of the information #4 Mike Bowdich 966K epub 1/26/22 NOW, I get Massacre Pond_A Novel books:1 folders: 0 No series information, no author... I was using the template (or something very similar to this) previously {author_sort}/{series:|| #}{series_index:05.2f|| - }{title} When I look in the preferences under “Add your own columns”, I don’t see “author_sort”. I do have Title, Authors, Size, Rating, Series. In the Sending books to devices section it still shows “author_sort”, “authors”, “series”, “series_index” and “title”. I tried replacing author_sort with "authors", but that just causes the author folder to get put on the tablet by first name, last name instead of last name, first name - so it's NOT what I want. I’m not sure what I need to change… |

For sending to devices there are two templates, right click ont he device icon in calibre and choose configure this device to change the device specific template (some devices have their own special templates that override the general one).

I have ONE template, EXACTLY the same template that has been in use since the day I put the Samsung Tab S6 into use MANY months ago. This is the template I use. It is exactly the same template I have ALWAYS used.
{author_sort}/{series:|| #}{series_index:05.2f|| - }{title} When I PREVIOUSLY put books on the tablet, approximately 6 months ago, EVERY BOOK looked like: Sandford John (author in last name, first name) Rampage (title) Singular Menace #3.00 - Rampage.epub (series, index, title) 5.5M epub 4:14 pm (size, format?, when put on tablet) NOW, when I ADD another book to this folder, IT LOOKS LIKE: <blank line> (NO author) Davenport #29.00 - Neon Prey.epub (this line SHOULD be the title) <blank line> (this line SHOULD be the series, index, title) 1.6M epub 4:23 pm That's what I'm seeing. It's not the template - that hasn't changed. What's displaying on the tablet is DIFFERENT when I add a new book to an existing folder. HOW do I fix this? |

That is NOT Calibre doing that.
The Template NAMES THE FILE only. The METADATA is not being processed (correctly) The device is not getting the missing values. This could be a Device App fail or The metadata is not being inserted/updated by the Calibre device driver. (using the OS to copy files bypasses this step, which is why you should AVOID going beneath the skirts) ![]() Open the copy on the DEVICE (use device view) with Calibre Viewer: Then use the View Metadata button (colored star) and see what that shows. (if it is good, then the app is flakey) |

Ah... So Coolreader changed.

Nor do I understand what you mean by "using the OS to copy files". Anything I push to the tablet is sent from Calibre. Again, please elaborate. Quote:
I'll have to go over to Coolreader and ask there, 'cause it seems odd that doing the same thing the same way provides different results if it's the first book in a folder as opposed to the second. Last edited by GracieAllen; 02-09-2022 at 10:35 AM. |

Opened Calibre. Pressed the icon for the card - on the top line of the window. Got a list of books. I presume these are on the card in the tablet. Pressed ESC. Didn't do ANYTHING in the Calibre window. Double-clicked a book. This brought up a e-book viewer. Hit ESC. STILL don't see any "View metadata" OR "colored star". I'd put a picture of the e-book viewer in here, but I don't see an obvious way to send it from the computer. If there's some OTHER "Calibre Viewer" I have no idea what it is or where it is. |

Easiest way to show/hide the toolbar in the viewer is the same as its always been - Ctrl+F11.
