Paperwhite Firmware Reversion

Id like to apologize if I'm creating a duplicate thread, but my "smart" phone won't let me use the Search function.

I have a Paperwhite 2, SN# B0D5, which has been -"updated" to Firmware 5.12.2.1.1 (3720580001). Guess I skipped putting the magic file (update.bin.tmp.partial) on this one.

I downloaded the correct initial firmware, and copied it to the Kindle, but no joy. It seems like as soon as I eject the Kindle, the file is instantly deleted.

Any thoughts, suggestions? I really hate the "new" interface. My others are all running 5.6.1.1 or 5.6.5... except for my original one that JUST died.

The only way to downgrade the software is through a serial port connection. Search the jailbreak threads for detailed instructions.

Technically not true, you could probably downgrade without serial by installing CRP, booting to diags and flashing the rootfs partition using DD from a USBNet shell.

Thanks for the suggestion, but there's no way I'm going to risk trashing a functioning but hated PW2 with my surgical skills.

Your suggestion interests me, but I really wish I knew what the heck you're talking about. (grin)

I found a Rescue Pack by ixtab and a Coward's Rescue Pack by dsmid. Are these the items you are talking about? Are they also the ones in NiLuJe's Snapshot thread? I DID find Kindlebreak and according to the log, the installation was successful. There doesn't seem to be any Android apps to open a tar.xz file. The search goes on.

OK. A Google search (as opposed to a Play Store search) rewarded me with RAR. The two files WERE from ixtab and dsmid. Now to download the USBnetwork and do some reading. (grin)
