Silly question, does Calibre automatically upload files online?

Apologies for the silly question. I have a few ebook files that I opened with calibre and it worked just fine until a few days ago I came across something in a site that said that calibre may be automatically uploading books to a cloud space where just anyone can access it.

Is there such a feature that uploads files without the user knowing? If so, how can I make sure that it does not ever happen?

Thank you in advance.

Very sorry again if the question is silly

Calibre has a content server, which makes the files available online, but it will not start automatically, unless you've set it to do so (Preferences -> Sharing over the net -> Run server automatically when calibre starts). And you can password-protect the server, so only people who know the username and password can access it.

Is this turned on by default? Or do people have to go into settings and turn it on themselves?

It is not turned on by default. You have to turn it on manually.

And in any event the calibre server doesn't, and can't, auto-upload to anything. Something must connect to the server and 'pull' a book.

To answer the original question: there is nothing in standard calibre that auto-uploads to anything. It is possible to find hacked 'forks' that do weird stuff but not on calibre's official site. It is also possible to install a plugin that does who-knows-what, but the risk of this is greatly reduced if you get plugins only through the calibre plugin downloader.
