Hello, I have been pondering about how to implement a custom column for related novels in a shared universe. To explain, some novels do not belong to a proper series so, using the default series column is somewhat inappropriate. Likewise, since they do not belong to a series, there is an issue as to what value to put in a custom series column. For example, The Lofty Fierce Consort, Counterattack of the Cannon Fodder Chambermaid , and The Prestigious Family’s Young lady and the Farmer, all belong to the same universe, and have the same author, but they don't have a chronological order, since they take place at roughly the same time. Therefore, using the default series column is inappropriate in this case, since there is no series index. Another example is when there are two separate series by the same author that have an intersection of plot and characters meet/interact with each other. Anyways, what I would like is a custom column that offers Titles or Series (limited to those by the same author) as options. My end goal is to use this column on the content server to create a link in the book details page to related novels. Any advice/ideas are welcome, and fyi, I have some experience with the calibre templates/functions Last edited by zaroz; 11-23-2021 at 07:01 PM. Reason: shared end goal |

I'd go with a text or tag-like text column, the latter if you want there to be an option for multiple values. While I wouldn't make it a composite column, Action Chains single-field edit can be used to semi-automatically populate/update a regular column via a template; I do it for Kobo collections.
