Pages get stuck on new Paperwhite

What the title says. I’ve had the new Paperwhite for about a week and I’ve noticed that from time to time I can’t swipe the page. I can open the settings menu, I can go back to the library screen but for about a minute it freezes and I can’t go to the next page of the book I’m reading. I have to either wait for it to stop freezing or restart it. The "Update your Kindle" option is greyed out so I'm guessing I have the latest version. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I return it? I have had two kindles and this is the first time it's happened to me. |

That particular weirdness hasn't happened to me, but if it were a repeating thing, I'd return it, for sure. I have problems with the page turn. I tap the screen to turn the page and it occasionally turns 2 pages. I'm talking about 2 pages with content, not something at the end of a chapter (though it occasionally happens then, too.) I'm hoping a future software release will change my problem, but I'd ask for a new one if what is happening to you happened to me. Really great reader, otherwise. Jim |

Oh great to know I'm not the only one. I have until January 31st to return it, so I'll wait a bit and do a hard reset a few days before as a last resort if the issue persist.

That happens from time-to-time on my Oasis. But when it does happen, I can always swipe to go back a page and then forward page turns work as expected.

So this is pretty common in newer models, huh? I had the Paperwhite 2 for 6 or 7 years and it never happened. Sucks.

Maybe, I think what everyone is agreeing to is that tapping on the screen to turn pages occasionally causes it to turn two pages. I don’t think they’re saying that their screens freeze. That sounds like a more serious problem to me. And something to keep your eye on so you can return it if need be. Jim |

What there is consensus on is that the page number can increment by 2 with a single tap, just because of where the page markers are relative to what is displayed on the screen. This is perfectly normal and expected, and will happen more with 6.8” screen than 6” screen because more text displays

I didn’t mean that there was any kind of consensus that what I was experiencing was shared by everyone, merely that there seemed to be a consensus of those who quoted my post who experienced it. The OP thought that the other posters were sharing his experience of having his screen freeze. Jim |

I don’t think many people are having this issue with regularity; at least I’m not. So it could be a hardware issue, or it could be something a Restart would fix. And had I read (or re-read) your previous post before responding to your latest, I would have understood you were not talking about the page number changing by 2 with a single page turn (as it will often do), and I probably would not have posted anything at all. I have no ideas about the screen freeze, apart from the experience I’ve had a number of times following an update, where it triggers re-indexing and the Kindle can become unresponsive. My PW5 has only a handful of books on it at the moment and so when it updated, I didn’t experience any performance degradation. Or maybe it is just FAST!

I've had the update greyed out for a while after a new update was released and finally downloaded and installed manually via computer. You may want to check your version number against the latest version number. Good luck sorting it all out.

Yeah, at first I thought it might have to do with the source of the book I was reading, but it also has happened with books I've bought from Amazon, so I don't know. I've reset it to factory settings. Let's hope it works.
