I assume that message is coming from calibre. But, that's only because I don't know of anything else that access the device database and can check. If you don't have a backup of the database to restore, then this will usually be fixed by signing out of the Kobo account on the device an back in. That will create a new database, add the books from Kobo and and sideloaded books. Unfortunately, it means losing the readings status and annotations for sideloaded books. If this doesn't work, then you might need to do a factory reset.

The database can be repaired under some circumstances. If it is only the indexes that are corrupt, or some free space, then doing a compress, or more correctly, an SQLite VACUUM, can fix things. There are options in my Kobo Utilities plugin to check the database and do the check and the compress.

@davidfor -- asking here because you clearly know your stuff. My Aura One works beautifully in every respect, except the white front light doesn't turn on (or scale). Oddly, the yellow comfort light works and appears to still have its full range. I've done a full factory reset with no change. I'm assuming this is a hardware problem and I'm out of luck, but if you have any thoughts that I can try, I'm all ears (and appreciative!). Thanks.

That's a bit strange as my understanding is that the Aura ONE uses one set of LEDs that can be set to any colour and the colour is mixed and brightness adjusted. The other devices use a set of white LEDs and a set of orange/yellow/red/weak piss coloured LEDs (the last is someones description for the Sage or Libra 2). I might be wrong about the Aura ONE and that there are white LEDs plus the coloured ones.

Because of the coloured LEDs, the Aura ONE does have an extra function in the Developers options. If you turn this one, enter "devmodeon" in the search, you will have an "Developers options" at the bottom of the Device information screen in the settings. On the Developer options screen is an option, "Set Frontlight LED Manually". When you open this, you will have fours sliders, one for each red, green, blue and white. You can set each individually. Playing with these should let you see if the white is working. You can also set the colour here and read like that. But, it gets overridden when you adjust the light using the normal popup. And I really don't recommend any of the single colour modes. The red makes me feel I should be reading a grimoire, the green makes me nauseous and the blue is just weird.

Does the Libra h20 have two sets of leds? How come the warm lights only function when at least the lowest 'blue' (i mean the not warm ones) lights are on?

When I said "the other devices" I seriously meant the other devices. If it was lacking clarity, it's because I should have said "other devices with Comfortlight PRO". That is the name Kobo uses for any device with colour changing lights. The devices with "Comfortlight", such as the Glo and the Nia, do not have colour changing lights and hence only have one set of LEDs.

But yes, the Libra H2O has two sets of LEDs. You can see this by looking across the screen to the part of the bezel where the buttons are. Turn the brightness all the way up and adjust the Natural light and you will see where the LEDs are located.

I'm not sure what you are asking. Mentioning "blue" doesn't help as there are no blue lights in the Libra H2O. So I don't understand what "least the lowest 'blue'" means. And the brackets don't help. But, I suspect you are asking about the relative levels of the two sets of LEDs.

From what I can see, the natural light level adjusts the relative level of the white and coloured LEDs. When it is all the way off, the colour LEDs are off. When it is all the way on, the white LEDs are off. Or at least at a much lower level. In the middle, they are both on.

The Brightness slider adjusts the overall level of the lights. So it is adjusting the power through both sets of LEDs but with the relative levels that the Natural light.

So, turn off Natural light, and you have pure white light (at least as per the specs of the LEDs used). Turn the Natural light on full, and you have whatever colour that it is that the other LEDs in that device give you. Possibly with some white at higher brightness levels.

Sorry if i seemed to ask my questions very connected to your posts re "other models". I did not intend to frame my question like that. I just thought of the h20 when you described two sets of led lights and it led me to ask my question which is totally irrelevant with your discussion with rogerinnyc

OKay this is what i meant to say is that my h2O knowing now that it has two sets of led lights, one white, the other set the yellow ones: If the white lights are set all the way down (off) the warm light is disabled so even if i turn it all the way up, the warm lights are off.

This is unlike my other ereader (likebook p78) which i can use only the warm lights if i like to.

Is this normal with all kobos with warm lights? Are the white lights the trigger for the warm lights to turn on?

I'm pretty sure I answered that in my reply above. But, as far as I can tell, when the Natural light is at the minimum, the coloured LEDs are completely off. When the Natural light is at the maximum, I think the white LEDs are off. But, they might still be on at higher brightness levels.

There may be a way to query the light level from the command line on the device. It isn't something I have bothered to work out how to do, but, there will be people here who know how.

Thanks for these thoughts. I went into developer mode and, sadly, sliding the colored sliders over completely worked (red, green and blue) to give off super strong hues, whereas sliding the white slider had no effect whatsoever.

Accessing the light settings from within a book, if the Natural Light is completely off, the Brightness slider does nothing. If the Natural Light is on at any level, the Brightness slider increases the brightness slightly, but similar in effect (in terms of resulting colors) as the Natural Light slider (although not quite as orangy at the top level).

Sad, because the KA1 really remains my favorite Kobo device -- and was hoping we would get a refresh of it rather than what we got in the Sage (although I am truly enjoying the Libra 2).

Thanks again for trying to help!
