Downloaded metadata does not show in book
I am using the latest Calibre version, but suddenly the downloaded metadata does not show in the book or in the main interface.
After download I click on the path. I see the opf file but when I click on it, I get the message ERROR: loading book failed When I click on show details I get the below message Spoiler:
None of the above makes sense to me but I copied and pasted as someone at help desk will make sense of it. All along I was easily able to download metadata, and embed it in the book. Pls where is my mistake now? Thank u Last edited by theducks; 11-09-2021 at 04:13 AM. Reason: spoilered |

I am far from being an expert, but there is a lot going wrong there:
Failed to open Book Failed to load 2 Plugins failed worker. I would Uninstall Calibre. Check the Calibre folder in Program files (should be empty or gone) Then reinstall from a fresh download. |

An opf is not a book. Why are you trying to open the opf? If you want to see the metadta for the book its right there in the interface.

I rely heavily on this function of Calibre and it used to work very smoothly before. ![]() Also in the Quickview of the Main Interface the metadata sources do not show on the left hand side although I have selected Identifiers in the list. Any help? Thank you |

That log indicates something on your computer is blocking calibre from downloading the metadata. Most likely an antivirus or firewall. Unblock calibre and you will be fine.

Reboot in safe mode, that will shut down most things.

I've been having an issue with downloading metadata from Amazon lately. The book is found and the title is displayed but no other metadata is displayed.

@DNSB: That's amazon.ca specific, try using amazon.com instead. And from your log only the comments and series are not being found, everything else is found.

Retrying seems to work but it's annoying to have to retry the metadata download 3 or 4 times before it works. |

Set the server to auto rather than amazon. Then it scrapes the data from google/bing cache of amazon.com thereby avoiding amazons capthcas.
