Syncing Reading Metrics/Progress in Between Kobo and Calibre

Is there a way to sync the Reading Metrics in the device to Calibre on PC and vice versa sso that if i juggle reading books alternately between the kobo device and Calibre Ebook viewer the metrics will be updated after i connect my device to the PC via usb?

My Kobo Utilities plugin can sync the reading status to and from Kobo devices. But, it doesn't sync the stats such as reading time. The way this has been stored in the past meant it wasn't really possible to get, and even harder to send back. There is now an alternate place for some of the stats, but, synching them between devices raises far to many questions to make it an easy thing to do.

Thank you.

But the reading progress adjusts accordingly?

Say i read Book A on kobo and reached page 35 (25%) if i connect my kobo to calibre, calibre will read this and when i read Book A on Calibre it will continue at page 35 (25%)? Then after reaching 60% in calibre ebook reader, when i connect my kobo, my libra will be updated to continue reading at 60%?

Do all of these happen automatically or do i need to enable this manually on Kobo Utilities?

The fetch of the status can be configured to be automatic. And it can check dates and status so it will only do it if the current reader has status later than what is in the library. But, sending it to another device is manual: Select the books you want to update and run the function. And that always overwrites the status on the device.

Thank you.

I understand now how the date determines the updating process.

Correct me if i am wrong, but in the Kobo Utilities plugin, i have to check the "Store current bookmarks on connect" for this to happen right?

and in your statement "Select the books you want to update and run the function", what exactly is "RUN THE FUNCTION?" Is there anything i need to click/set-up when i want to update reading progress in say, another kobo device so that all three (i.e. Calibre, Kobo Libra 2 and Clara) are all sync relative to reading progress?

and pardon this newbie question, how to setup edits in the metadata to be automatic when connecting kobo devices to Calibre? Thank you

Yes. That is in the plugins configuration. You can configure it to be for all devices, or individual devices.

On the plugins menu, it is "Store/Restore current bookmark". The dialog displayed has options to choose which direction and exactly what gets set.

The profiles in the configuration can be used for multiple devices. They are mainly there if to have each device updating to a different set of columns. And that is most likely used where different people are sharing the library. That way they can fetch the reading status without clobbering the other persons status. And the plugin automatically selects the profile for the connected device. But, the dialogs also have an option to choose a different profile.

In your case, as there is one person using multiple devices, you can setup one profile with the device "* Any Device". That way only one set of columns is needed.

That is in the driver and other calibre preferences. For either the built-in KoboTouch driver or the KoboTouchExtended driver, go to the third tab and enable the appropriate options in the metadata updating section. And to have it happen when the device is connected, go to the "Sending books to devices" page of the calibre preferences and set the "Metadata management" option to automatic.

Thank you very much. your responses have been enlightening. I have to play with Calibre even more or face more problems so I can figure things out more.
