Dark Mode for earlier Kobo?
I've seen in video reviews that the new Libra 2 and the Sage have a Dark Mode.

So, no need for a patch.

I saw that Libra 2 and Sage got a 4.29.x firmware.

Does someone know if in a future firmware update that Dark Mode will be available to earlier models, like the Libra h20 ?

EDIT : In fact, the title of the thread should mention that it's also about a firmware update. Anyways, hope it's not confusing. I'm not referring to patch for Dark Mode.

No. The Elipsa, Sage, and Libra 2 all support Dark Mode because they have waveforms that allow it.

What do you mean by waveforms? Different screen? (Sorry, French speaking guy here.)

If it works with Nikel, the Dark Mode should work on other models too?

The waveforms are used for updating the e-ink screens. They are part of how the partial updates can be done. They are specific to the screen model.

Dark mode does work with the older devices running firmware 4.28.x or later. But, it is not in the UI. And won't be. I have Dark Mode (which inverts text but NOT images) working just fine on my Clara HD; the experience is excellent. It should also work on your Libra H20. Here's how to do it (a post be me in another thread):

Nickelmenu persists through firmware updates fairly well, occasionally certain actions will need tweaks from the creator. Ironically the last time this happened was for the previous invert screen vs this new dark mode. The old method would also invert pictures whereas dark mode doesn’t.

Though typically new firmware will have no affect on nickelmenu, nor will you need to reinstall nickelmenu between firmware updates.

It should also be noted nickelmenu isn’t patching the firmware.

I used to like to fiddle with my Kobo and my laptop (hello Linux distros), but no so much anymore. The only trick I do is to replace the French Kobo dictionary with a really great wiki-dictionary. I have to replace it every time I do a synch or a firmware update, so I don’t sync often!

I decided to order the new Libra 2. They got me.

If it relies on a patch, then it won't survive a firmware update. But, if you update the config file it will. And NickelMenu will survive, but, can need an update. If NickelMenu is updating the config file, then the setting will also survive a firmware update. I assume it does, but, I don't use it.

Does the invert mode work in thr latest fw of libra 2 and sage to go hand in hand with the official darkmode, so even the menu and home screen and dictionarirs will be in darkmode?

What you're looking for is the classic invert or night mode, not the new Dark Mode (the defining characteristic of which is that it ONLY inverts text in books and nothing else).

You can get the classic invert or night mode on any model Kobo using the method I described here:

If you don't mind having two French dictionaries you could just copy your wiki-dictionary into KOBOeReader/.kobo/custom-dict/ where it should happily survive synching and updating the firmware.
