The Libra Flip

I'm reading with my Libra H2O locked into landscape mode. Every time it wakes up, it initially displays the text upside down. That is, the text is correct only if the device is held with the page turn buttons at the top. Does anybody hold their reader like that? Even the word "kobo" printed on the case is upside down that way. I have to do the tilty-tilt to get the display right. Every. Single. Time.

Am I missing something? Or are they all this way?

My Forma is locked into non-landscape mode (whatever that is called). It chooses buttons on the left by default, the opposite of what I want. This can happen if I put it on a flat surface as well. (There has to be a default, otherwise the Kobo might start doing this randomly... and rapidly.)

I don't think there's anything you can do about it, except turn it the way you want and wait a few seconds.

Landscape and portrait have been around as long as paintings have.

But whatever floats your boat.

Yes, there does seem to be a default position. Pity it's the WRONG position!

I suspect paintings have been around much, much longer than the English terms "landscape" and "portrait" have, actually. Language changes, and while personally still use "landscape and "portrait", I can definitely see the advantages of using more easily translated, less culturally specific terms as an aid to understanding.

Printers used to call them French (= portrait for painters) or Italian (= landscape). And for painters, ready made stretchers come in 3 types: portrait, Italian and marine (wider respective to height).

Edit: and this is not limited to English - I'm French. And one can paint a "vertical" landscape but most portraits (of individuals, not groups or interiors) are "vertical".

No, no. I am certain the cavemen Grog and Og hammered out what would be referred to as landscape and what would be portrait before they touched pigment to cave wall.

It might mean that you are doing the "tilty-tilt" as you either put it to sleep or wake it. I use mine locked in portrait, and frequently it will be the wrong way up to what it was when I stopped reading. But, I had to close the cover, put it down wherever, pick it up and open the cover. There is enough movement there to confuse the sensor and software.

As to holding it with the buttons at the top, I'm know someone has said they use it like that. I don't, but, I frequently hold the ereader by the top-right corner. If it was in landscape mode, I would be able to reach a button to turn the page.

I use my Libra H2O locked in portrait mode and virtually every time I wake it up it does the "flippy floppy" thing and starts off upside down too. I'm not 100% sure if it every time though. I thought it could be the "tilty tilt" as davidfor has suggested, but it seems odd that would the case every time.
